Explorer Athletics
Located in 07016, NJ, our Summer Camp offers a tailored sports program for 1st and 2nd graders. We adapt traditional sports by using smaller fields and age-appropriate equipment, allowing campers to develop essential game skills and experience success. Our Athletic Specialists, well-versed in this approach, dedicate part of each session to teaching new skills, followed by gameplay emphasizing those skills.
Our Oak Crest counselors actively engage in these activities alongside the campers, working closely with specialists to create and reinforce opportunities for success among our young participants.
Creative Arts
In 07016, NJ, children have the chance to participate in a wide array of artistic activities, all conducted in air-conditioned classrooms by experienced art instructors. Each week, campers have the opportunity to attend sessions in various disciplines, including Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Furthermore, all Explorer Girl groups participate in a dance routine as an integral part of our annual Showcrest event, a significant production that typically occurs during the sixth week of camp. Showcrest takes place in the evening at a local venue and features professional sound and lighting, enhancing the overall experience.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest in 07016, NJ, our Learn-to-Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience. Our aquatic facility is exceptional, featuring a state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex meticulously designed for children aged 3 to 8. This complex offers water depths ranging from 1 to 6 feet, allowing us to begin instruction in shallow water and progress to deeper levels as our swimmers advance their skills.
Each morning, our Explorer campers engage in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. In the afternoon, the groups return for free swim sessions. Our swim lessons prioritize skill levels rather than age, ensuring that we can appropriately challenge swimmers of all proficiencies. Our instructors undergo annual training and draw from a rich knowledge base, incorporating techniques from the American Red Cross along with over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
Mastering the skill of bicycle riding has become a significant childhood milestone, and Oak Crest, situated in 07016, NJ, provides an optimal environment for achieving this goal through its newly established Bicycle Village. This village boasts a 1/4-mile training course, a cutting-edge pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond fostering independence in children, cycling also imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills.
Our experienced instructors offer personalized attention, empowering novice bikers to gain the necessary confidence. Oak Crest ensures that appropriately sized bikes and helmets are provided throughout the learning process, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
Ropes Course and Low Ropes Course
In 07016, NJ, Oak Crest has established a low ropes course with a dual purpose: enhancing the gross motor skills of our 1st Grade Explorers and equipping them with the essential skills to navigate our Climbing Tower. Our 1st Grade Explorers participate in activities on the Low Ropes Course, which involve climbing, exploration, and swinging, all conducted just inches above the ground. When they advance to 2nd Grade, Oak Crest campers have the opportunity to experience the Climbing Tower and Zipline for the first time.
The Ropes Course is thoughtfully designed to accommodate campers at their individual pace. As campers become more comfortable and confident, they gain access to higher and more advanced elements.
Prior to each season, our ropes courses undergo rigorous safety inspections and certification by the company responsible for their construction. Moreover, our certified ropes instructors, who lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily safety checks to ensure the well-being of our campers.
