Explorer Athletics
In the 07920 area of New Jersey, our summer camp caters to 1st and 2nd graders by offering modified versions of traditional sports. Utilizing scaled-down fields and courts equipped with age-appropriate gear, this approach facilitates the campers’ success while helping them acquire fundamental game skills. Our team of Athletic Specialists, responsible for supervising these activities, is trained to allocate a portion of each session to teaching a new skill, followed by gameplay that emphasizes the newly acquired skill. Additionally, Oak Crest counselors actively engage in these activities alongside the campers, collaborating with the specialists to create and reinforce opportunities for success among our young participants.
Creative Arts

Furthermore, all Explorer Girl groups take part in a dance routine as an integral component of our annual Showcrest event—a significant Dance and Drama Production. Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest in 07920, New Jersey, our Learn-to-Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience. Our aquatic facility is unmatched, boasting a state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex specifically designed for children aged 3-8. This Aquatic Complex offers water depths ranging from 1 to 6 feet, allowing us to begin instruction in shallow water and progress to deeper levels as our young swimmers advance in their skills.
Every morning, our Explorer campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. In the afternoons, the groups return for free swim sessions. Our swim lessons are tailored to individual skill levels rather than age, ensuring that we challenge swimmers of all proficiencies. Our instructors undergo annual training, and our swim techniques draw from the expertise of the American Red Cross as well as over 25 years of hands-on experience in teaching children to swim.

Our 1st Grade Explorers engage in a range of activities on the Low Ropes Course, which involve climbing, exploration, and swinging, all conducted just inches above the ground. Upon progressing to the 2nd Grade, Oak Crest campers have the opportunity to experience the Climbing Tower and Zipline for the first time. The Ropes Course is designed to allow campers to advance at their own pace, with access to higher and more challenging elements as they gain comfort and confidence.
Before each season, our ropes courses undergo thorough safety inspections and certification by the company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, certified ropes instructors, who also lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily safety checks to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for our campers.
