At Oak Crest in 08553, NJ, our program adapts to the developmental stages of campers. The Explorer program, mirroring the Munchkin program, prioritizes skill development in various athletic and creative pursuits, advancing swimming abilities, and nurturing social and emotional intelligence.
In the first grade, campers are introduced to exciting elements like the Climbing Tower, Zipline, Giant Swing, and participate in the cherished Oak Crest tradition of GAGA. As they progress to the second grade, campers enjoy a CHOICE period in their schedule, granting them the opportunity to select activities each week, fostering a dynamic and engaging camp experience.
Explorer Athletics
In the 08553, NJ area, our 1st and 2nd graders take part in tailored adaptations of traditional sports. Using scaled-down fields and courts equipped with age-appropriate gear, this approach empowers campers to experience success while mastering fundamental game skills. Our Athletic Specialists, who oversee these activities, are trained to allocate a portion of each session to teach a new skill, followed by gameplay focused on reinforcing that skill. Creative Arts

Furthermore, all Explorer Girl groups take part in a Dance routine as an integral component of our annual Showcrest, a significant Dance and Drama Production. Showcrest is a substantial production, typically occurring during the sixth week of camp in the evening at a local venue, featuring professional sound and lighting.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest in 08553, NJ, our Learn-to-Swim Program is an essential cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience. Our aquatic facility sets the standard, boasting a state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex meticulously designed for children aged 3-8. This complex offers water depths ranging from 1 to 6 feet, allowing us to initiate instruction in shallow water and progressively advance to deeper levels as our swimmers develop their skills.
Every morning, our Explorers actively participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. In the afternoon, the groups return for free swim sessions. Our swim lessons are tailored to individual skill levels rather than age, ensuring we can challenge swimmers of all proficiencies. Our instructors undergo annual training, and our teaching methods draw not only from the American Red Cross but also from over 25 years of practical experience in instructing children in swimming.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
The skill of bicycle riding has evolved into a significant childhood milestone, and at Oak Crest, situated in 08553, NJ, we provide an ideal environment for this achievement through our newly established Bicycle Village. This village boasts a 1/4-mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Cycling not only nurtures independence in children but also imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer individualized attention, helping novice riders build the necessary confidence. Ropes Course and Low Ropes Course
In 08553, NJ, Oak Crest has created a low ropes course with a dual purpose: to develop the gross motor skills of our 1st Grade Explorers and to equip them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. The 1st Grade Explorers engage in activities on the Low Ropes Course, which include climbing, exploration, and swinging, all conducted just inches above the ground. Upon advancing to the 2nd Grade, Oak Crest campers have the opportunity to experience the Climbing Tower and Zipline for the first time. The Ropes Course is thoughtfully designed to allow campers to progress at their individual pace. As campers gain comfort and confidence, they gain access to higher and more advanced elements.
Prior to each season, our ropes courses undergo thorough safety inspections and certification by the company responsible for their construction. Additionally, certified ropes instructors, who also lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily safety checks to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for our campers.
Social Development
Within the Explorer Division at Oak Crest in 08553, NJ, there is a deliberate emphasis on nurturing collaborative skills within a group setting. Throughout the day, our campers are challenged with the task of working together and fostering mutual support.
