Explorers (1st & 2nd Graders) Summer Camp near Branchburg

At Oak Crest in Branchburg, New Jersey, our camp program is tailored to cater to the age group of campers. In the Explorer program, akin to the Munchkin program, the emphasis lies on developing a wide range of athletic and creative skills, honing swimming abilities, and fostering social and emotional intelligence.

For first-grade campers, they are introduced to exciting activities such as the Climbing Tower, Zipline, Giant Swing, and they partake in the Oak Crest tradition of GAGA. As they progress into second grade, campers benefit from a CHOICE period in their schedule, which allows them to select activities each week. This approach encourages a dynamic and engaging camp experience.

Explorer Athletics

In Branchburg, New Jersey, our 1st and 2nd graders participate in modified versions of traditional sports. We utilize scaled-down fields and courts with age-appropriate equipment, allowing campers to experience success as they develop fundamental game skills. Our Athletic Specialists, responsible for supervising these activities, are trained to allocate a portion of each session for teaching a new skill, followed by gameplay that emphasizes the application of that skill.

Moreover, Oak Crest counselors actively engage in these activities alongside our campers, working in collaboration with specialists to create and reinforce opportunities for success for our young participants.

Learn to Swim

At Oak Crest in Branchburg, New Jersey, our Learn-to-Swim Program is an integral part of the Oak Crest experience. We take pride in our exceptional aquatic facility, which includes a state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex tailored specifically for children aged 3 to 8 years old. The Aquatic Complex offers water depths ranging from 1 to 6 feet, enabling us to begin instruction in shallower water and progress to deeper levels as our young swimmers develop their skills.

Each morning, our Explorers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. In the afternoon, the groups return for free swim sessions. Notably, our swim lessons are structured around skill levels rather than age, allowing us to appropriately challenge swimmers of all proficiencies.

Our instructors undergo annual training, and our swim program draws from both American Red Cross guidelines and over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim.

Ropes Course and Low Ropes Course

In Branchburg, New Jersey, Oak Crest has introduced a low ropes course that serves a dual purpose: enhancing the gross motor skills of our 1st Grade Explorers and equipping them with the essential abilities needed to navigate our Climbing Tower. Our 1st Grade Explorers engage in a range of activities on the Low Ropes Course, including climbing, exploration, and swinging, all taking place just inches above the ground. As campers progress to the 2nd Grade, they have the opportunity to experience the Climbing Tower and Zipline for the first time.

The design of the Ropes Course allows campers to advance at their individual pace. As they become more comfortable and confident, they gain access to higher and more challenging elements.

Prior to each season, we ensure the safety of our ropes courses through inspections and certification by the company responsible for their construction. In addition, certified ropes instructors, who also lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily safety checks to guarantee a secure and enjoyable experience for our campers.
