Explorer Athletics
In Branchburg, New Jersey, our 1st and 2nd graders participate in modified versions of traditional sports. We utilize scaled-down fields and courts with age-appropriate equipment, allowing campers to experience success as they develop fundamental game skills. Our Athletic Specialists, responsible for supervising these activities, are trained to allocate a portion of each session for teaching a new skill, followed by gameplay that emphasizes the application of that skill.
Moreover, Oak Crest counselors actively engage in these activities alongside our campers, working in collaboration with specialists to create and reinforce opportunities for success for our young participants.
Creative Arts
In Branchburg, New Jersey, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse array of artistic activities, which are conducted in air-conditioned classrooms by experienced art instructors. On a weekly basis, campers participate in sessions covering various disciplines such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Furthermore, it’s noteworthy that all Explorer Girl groups participate in a Dance routine as an integral part of our annual Showcrest event, which is a significant Dance and Drama Production. Showcrest is a substantial production, typically occurring during the sixth week of camp in the evening at a local venue, and it features professional sound and lighting for an exceptional experience.

Learn to Ride a Bicycle
The attainment of bicycle riding skills has become a significant childhood milestone, and at Oak Crest, situated in Branchburg, New Jersey, we provide an ideal setting for this achievement through our newly established Bicycle Village. This village encompasses a 1/4-mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Cycling not only promotes independence in children but also imparts essential lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills.
Our experienced instructors offer individualized attention, allowing novice riders to cultivate the confidence needed for success. Oak Crest is committed to ensuring the availability of appropriately sized bikes and helmets throughout the learning process, making it a safe and supportive environment for children to acquire this valuable skill.
Ropes Course and Low Ropes Course
In Branchburg, New Jersey, Oak Crest has introduced a low ropes course that serves a dual purpose: enhancing the gross motor skills of our 1st Grade Explorers and equipping them with the essential abilities needed to navigate our Climbing Tower. Our 1st Grade Explorers engage in a range of activities on the Low Ropes Course, including climbing, exploration, and swinging, all taking place just inches above the ground. As campers progress to the 2nd Grade, they have the opportunity to experience the Climbing Tower and Zipline for the first time.
The design of the Ropes Course allows campers to advance at their individual pace. As they become more comfortable and confident, they gain access to higher and more challenging elements.
Prior to each season, we ensure the safety of our ropes courses through inspections and certification by the company responsible for their construction. In addition, certified ropes instructors, who also lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily safety checks to guarantee a secure and enjoyable experience for our campers.
Social Development
In the Explorer Division of Oak Crest in Branchburg, New Jersey, there is a deliberate emphasis on nurturing collaborative skills within a group dynamic. Throughout the day, the campers are given opportunities to engage in collective efforts and foster mutual support among their peers. This group-oriented structure, combined with the active guidance of counselors, plays a pivotal role in cultivating strong bonds and lasting friendships among the campers.
Counselors also take on the role of instructing campers in respectful interaction with others and effective communication, both with their peers and the staff. Oak Crest provides a supportive environment where children can develop the emotional and social skills that are fundamental for success in life.
