Explorers (1st & 2nd Graders) Summer Camp near Flemington
At Oak Crest, located in Flemington, NJ, our camp program adapts to the age of our campers. The Explorer program, similar to the Munchkin program, prioritizes skill development in various athletic and creative pursuits, refines swimming abilities, and fosters social and emotional intelligence.
For first-grade campers, we introduce exciting activities such as the Climbing Tower, Zipline, Giant Swing, and the cherished Oak Crest tradition of GAGA. As campers progress into the second grade, they have the opportunity to participate in a CHOICE period in their schedule, enabling them to choose activities each week. This approach creates a dynamic and engaging camp experience for our campers.
Explorer Athletics
Located in Flemington, NJ, our program for 1st and 2nd graders involves adapted variations of traditional sports. We utilize scaled-down playing fields and courts equipped to suit their age, facilitating the acquisition of fundamental game skills and ensuring a sense of accomplishment. Our dedicated Athletic Specialists lead these activities, allocating a portion of each session to instructing a new skill, followed by gameplay that emphasizes the newly learned skill. Oak Crest counselors actively engage in these activities alongside campers, working closely with specialists to create and reinforce opportunities for success among our young participants.
Creative Arts
In Flemington, NJ, children are provided with a wide array of artistic activities conducted by seasoned art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms. Each week, campers participate in sessions covering a spectrum of disciplines including Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Additionally, all Explorer Girl groups participate in a dance routine as a central component of our annual Showcrest, a significant Dance and Drama Production. Showcrest is an elaborate production, traditionally held during the sixth week of camp in the evening at a local venue, featuring professional-grade sound and lighting for an immersive experience.

Learn to Ride a Bicycle
Mastering the skill of bicycling has become a significant childhood milestone, and at Oak Crest in Flemington, NJ, we provide an ideal environment for this achievement through our newly established Bicycle Village. This village boasts a 1/4-mile training course, a cutting-edge pump track, and a trail dedicated to mountain bike preparation. Cycling not only encourages independence in children but also imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills.
Our experienced instructors offer individualized attention, empowering novice riders to build the necessary confidence. Oak Crest ensures the availability of appropriately sized bikes and helmets throughout the learning process, ensuring a safe and supportive experience for young cyclists.
Ropes Course and Low Ropes Course
In Flemington, NJ, Oak Crest has recently constructed a low ropes course with a twofold purpose: enhancing the gross motor skills of our 1st Grade Explorers and equipping them with the necessary skills to navigate our Climbing Tower. Our 1st Grade Explorers actively engage in activities on the Low Ropes Course, which involve climbing, exploration, and swinging, all conducted just inches above the ground. Upon advancing to the 2nd Grade, Oak Crest campers have the opportunity to experience the Climbing Tower and Zipline for the first time. The Ropes Course is thoughtfully designed to allow campers to progress at their own pace. As they grow more comfortable and confident, they gain access to higher and more challenging elements.
Before each season, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive safety inspections and receive certification from the company that constructed them. Furthermore, certified ropes instructors, who also guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily safety checks to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for our campers.
Social Development
In the Explorer Division at Oak Crest in Flemington, NJ, there is a deliberate emphasis on nurturing collaborative skills within a group setting. Throughout the day, our campers are given opportunities to work together as a cohesive unit and cultivate mutual support. This group-oriented structure, combined with the active engagement of counselors, plays a pivotal role in fostering strong bonds and lasting friendships among campers.
