Explorers (1st & 2nd Graders) Summer Camp near Martinsville
At Oak Crest located in Martinsville, NJ, our program adapts as campers grow older. The Explorer program, similar to the Munchkin program, aims to enhance skills in a variety of athletic and creative pursuits, improve swimming abilities, and nurture social and emotional intelligence.
First-grade campers are introduced to activities such as the Climbing Tower, Zipline, Giant Swing, and the Oak Crest tradition of GAGA. As campers transition into second grade, they have the opportunity to participate in a CHOICE period within their schedule, enabling them to select activities on a weekly basis, fostering a dynamic and engaging camp experience.
Explorer Athletics
In Martinsville, NJ, our first and second-grade campers participate in adapted versions of traditional sports. We utilize scaled-down fields and courts, along with age-appropriate equipment, to ensure that campers can achieve success while developing fundamental game skills. Our Athletic Specialists, who oversee these activities, are trained to allocate a portion of each session to teach a new skill, followed by gameplay that emphasizes the use of that skill. Additionally, Oak Crest counselors actively engage in these activities alongside the campers, working in collaboration with specialists to create and reinforce opportunities for success among our young participants.
Creative Arts
In Martinsville, NJ, your child can participate in a wide variety of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms. Each week, campers attend sessions in disciplines such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Furthermore, all Explorer Girl groups take part in a dance routine as an integral component of our annual Showcrest, a significant production that combines dance and drama. Showcrest is a substantial production typically held during the sixth week of camp in the evening at a local venue, featuring professional sound and lighting.

Learn to Ride a Bicycle
Mastering the art of bicycle riding has become a significant childhood milestone, and Oak Crest, situated in Martinsville, NJ, provides an optimal environment for this achievement through its newly established Bicycle Village. This village includes a 1/4-mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond promoting independence in children, cycling also imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills.
Our experienced instructors offer individualized attention, allowing novice riders to gain the confidence they need. Oak Crest ensures the availability of appropriately sized bikes and helmets to facilitate the learning process.
Ropes Course and Low Ropes Course
In Martinsville, NJ, Oak Crest has recently established a low ropes course with a dual purpose: to enhance the gross motor skills of our 1st Grade Explorers and prepare them for navigating our Climbing Tower. The 1st Grade Explorers participate in activities on the Low Ropes Course, which involve climbing, exploration, and swinging, all at a height just inches above the ground. Upon advancing to 2nd Grade, Oak Crest campers get their first experience on the Climbing Tower and Zipline. The Ropes Course is designed to accommodate each camper’s individual pace, allowing them to progress as they gain comfort and confidence. As campers become more at ease, they gain access to higher and more advanced elements.
For safety assurance, our ropes courses undergo thorough safety inspections and certification by the company responsible for their construction before each season. In addition, certified ropes instructors, who lead the groups through all ropes courses, perform daily safety checks to maintain a secure environment.
