Explorers (1st & 2nd Graders) Summer Camp near Neshanic Station
At Oak Crest in Neshanic Station, New Jersey, the camp program adapts to the age of its participants. The Explorer program, which is similar to the Munchkin program, is dedicated to improving skills in various athletic and creative pursuits, refining swimming abilities, and fostering social and emotional intelligence.
For first-grade campers, this means an introduction to activities like the Climbing Tower, Zipline, Giant Swing, and the cherished Oak Crest tradition of GAGA. As they progress to second grade, campers benefit from a CHOICE period integrated into their schedule, allowing them to choose activities on a weekly basis. This approach enhances the camp experience by offering a dynamic and engaging range of options.
Explorer Athletics
Located in Neshanic Station, New Jersey, our summer program caters to 1st and 2nd graders, offering them the opportunity to engage in modified versions of traditional sports. We employ scaled-down fields and courts equipped with age-appropriate gear to ensure that our campers can experience success while developing fundamental game skills.
Our Athletic Specialists, who oversee these activities, are specifically trained to allocate a portion of each session to instructing a new skill, followed by gameplay that emphasizes the application of that skill. What sets our program apart is the active involvement of Oak Crest counselors, who actively participate in these activities alongside our campers. This collaboration between counselors and specialists serves to establish and reinforce opportunities for success among our young participants.

Learn to Ride a Bicycle
Mastering the skill of bicycle riding is a significant childhood milestone, and at Oak Crest in Neshanic Station, New Jersey, we provide an optimal environment for this achievement through our newly established Bicycle Village. This village boasts a 1/4-mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail.
Cycling not only nurtures independence in children but also imparts essential lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer individualized attention, helping novice riders build the confidence needed for success. Oak Crest ensures the availability of appropriately sized bikes and helmets to facilitate the learning process.
Ropes Course and Low Ropes Course
In Neshanic Station, New Jersey, Oak Crest has established a low ropes course with a dual purpose: to enhance the gross motor skills of our 1st Grade Explorers and to equip them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. The 1st Grade Explorers engage in activities on the Low Ropes Course, which involve climbing, exploration, and swinging, all conducted just inches above the ground. Upon advancing to 2nd Grade, Oak Crest campers have the opportunity to experience the Climbing Tower and Zipline for the first time. The Ropes Course is thoughtfully designed to allow campers to progress at their own pace. As they become more comfortable and confident, they gain access to higher and more advanced elements.
Before each season, our ropes courses undergo thorough safety inspections and certification by the company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, certified ropes instructors, who also guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily safety checks to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for our campers.
Social Development
In Oak Crest, located in Neshanic Station, New Jersey, within the Explorer Division, there is a deliberate emphasis on cultivating collaborative skills within a group dynamic. Throughout the day, the Explorer groups are assigned tasks that require them to collaborate and cultivate mutual support among their peers. The group structure, coupled with the active engagement of counselors, serves as a vital element in fostering strong bonds and friendships among the campers. Additionally, counselors play a pivotal role in instructing campers on the importance of respectful interactions with others and effective communication, both among peers and with the staff. Oak Crest provides a nurturing environment where children have the opportunity to acquire the emotional and social skills essential for success in their future endeavors.
