Explorers (1st & 2nd Graders) Summer Camp near North Brunswick
At Oak Crest in North Brunswick, New Jersey, our program adapts to the age of our campers. The Explorer program, similar to the Munchkin program, is designed to develop a wide range of athletic and creative skills, improve swimming abilities, and nurture social and emotional intelligence.
For first-grade campers, the program includes exciting experiences like the Climbing Tower, Zipline, Giant Swing, and participation in the cherished Oak Crest tradition of GAGA. As campers progress into the second grade, they have the opportunity to customize their camp experience through a CHOICE period in their schedule, allowing them to select activities on a weekly basis. This approach fosters a dynamic and engaging camp environment.
Explorer Athletics
In North Brunswick, New Jersey, our Summer Camp offers a tailored sports program for 1st and 2nd graders. We employ modified versions of traditional sports, utilizing smaller fields and courts along with age-appropriate equipment. This approach is designed to empower campers to attain success while building fundamental game skills.
Our Athletic Specialists, who are well-trained in their respective areas, allocate a portion of each session to teach new skills, followed by gameplay that emphasizes these newly acquired abilities. Oak Crest counselors actively engage in these activities alongside the campers, working closely with the specialists to create and reinforce opportunities for success among our young participants.
Creative Arts
In North Brunswick, New Jersey, your child will have access to a wide variety of artistic activities held in air-conditioned classrooms and led by experienced art instructors. Weekly sessions encompass disciplines such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Additionally, all Explorer Girl groups participate in a dance routine as an integral part of our annual Showcrest event, a significant production combining dance and drama. Showcrest typically occurs during the sixth week of camp, held in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional sound and lighting for a memorable experience.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest in North Brunswick, New Jersey, our Learn-to-Swim Program is an integral part of the Oak Crest experience. Our aquatic facility is exceptional, featuring a state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex designed specifically for children aged 3-8. The Aquatic Complex offers water depths ranging from 1 to 6 feet, allowing us to initiate instruction in shallower waters and progress to deeper levels as our young swimmers develop their skills.
Each morning, our Explorer campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. In the afternoon, campers have the opportunity for free swim sessions. Our swim lessons are structured based on skill levels rather than age, ensuring that we can challenge swimmers of all proficiencies. Our instructors receive annual training and incorporate techniques from the American Red Cross as well as over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
Learning to ride a bicycle has become a crucial childhood achievement. Oak Crest, situated in North Brunswick, NJ, provides an optimal environment for this endeavor through its recently established Bicycle Village. This village includes a 1/4-mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail.
Cycling not only encourages independence in children but also instills valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer individualized attention to help novice riders build the necessary confidence. Oak Crest ensures that appropriately sized bicycles and helmets are available throughout the learning process.
