In 07091, NJ, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for children. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain a favorable camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, each activity is supervised by a Munchkin Specialist who is specially recruited and trained to meet the needs of children aged 3, 4, and 5.
The Munchkin Program focuses on three key areas:
1. Developing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities.
2. Teaching swimming skills.
3. Promoting social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities to cater to our youngest campers. These scaled-down adaptations include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics. Our aim is to ensure that children in the 3, 4, and 5-year-old age group can experience success and enjoyment in these sports.
Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with young campers, and they guide your child in learning the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging.
Creative Arts
Located in 07091, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center is a remarkable hub for artistic expression. Children at our camp have the unique opportunity to engage in a wide range of artistic activities in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors.
Every week, our campers actively participate in various creative activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Furthermore, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. This event, which takes place during the 6th week of camp, is far from modest. It unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are essential components of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 07091, NJ location. We have developed a low ropes course with dual objectives: to promote the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkin campers and to equip them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging activities, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the utmost safety, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. Additionally, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it’s a vital proficiency that is best acquired in our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex at the 07091, NJ location of Oak Crest. Our commitment to excellence is evident in our annual training of instructors, which draws on both American Red Cross guidelines and more than 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We confidently guarantee that your child will achieve proficiency in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility includes two shallow pools to ensure even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with assistance from group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience is the fostering of children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics. This process contributes to the development of heightened confidence and independence in campers. As they transition between different activities, the group actively participates in cultivating friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff members. Our dedicated staff is committed to empowering Munchkin campers to express their thoughts using words and guiding them in effective communication. Munchkin Lunch
In order to cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkin group has a separate dining arrangement, allowing them to have the first lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
