In the 07921 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for young children. Our Munchkin Division maintains an impressive camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. In addition, each activity is supervised by a dedicated Munchkin Specialist who has been carefully recruited and trained to address the specific needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program adopts a threefold approach, focusing on the enhancement of gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, the development of swimming skills, and the promotion of social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of a range of sports activities tailored to suit the youngest campers. From mini-soccer and mini-basketball to t-ball and gymnastics, we have customized these traditional sports to ensure that our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers can experience success. Our athletic specialists, who are specifically trained to work with children of this age group, guide your child in learning the fundamental skills of these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Located in 07921, New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as an exceptional hub for fostering artistic expression. Here, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic activities conducted in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors. Each week, our campers actively participate in a diverse range of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Furthermore, our Munchkin groups contribute to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production that adds a unique dimension to the camp experience. Showcrest, held during the 6th week of camp, takes place in the evening at a local venue and features professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable and memorable spectacle for all involved.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral components of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 07921, NJ location. We have established a low ropes course with dual objectives: promoting the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkins and equipping them with the essential skills needed to navigate our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging activities, all while being just inches above the ground.
Safety is paramount, and our ropes courses undergo thorough inspection and certification by the construction company responsible for their installation at the beginning of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it is a crucial proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in the 07921, NJ location. Our commitment to excellence is evident in our annual instructor training program, which draws from both American Red Cross guidelines and more than 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We wholeheartedly guarantee that your child will become proficient in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginner swimmers, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility features two shallow pools, designed to ensure even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson conducted by a certified swim instructor, with the support of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating elements of the camp experience centers around the development of children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics, resulting in the growth of their confidence and independence. As they transition between various activities, the group actively participates in fostering friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff. Our committed staff members empower Munchkin campers to express their thoughts using words and assist them in developing direct communication skills. Oak Crest offers a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills crucial for achieving success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To meet the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp, with the advantage of enjoying the first lunch period of the day. Our Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, providing a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
