In 07931, New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5-day and a 3-day program. Our Munchkin Division boasts an exceptional camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Furthermore, each activity is supervised by a Munchkin Specialist, specifically recruited and trained to meet the needs of children aged 3 to 5.
The Munchkin Program prioritizes a three-pronged approach: enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, developing swimming proficiency, and fostering social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of several sports activities tailored to our young campers. Whether it’s mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, or gymnastics, we’ve customized traditional sports to ensure that our youngest participants can experience success. With the expert guidance of our athletic specialists, who possess specialized training in working with 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers, your child will thoroughly enjoy acquiring the fundamental skills of these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Located in 07931, New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as a distinguished hub for fostering artistic expression. Here, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide spectrum of creative activities conducted in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors. On a weekly basis, our campers actively participate in a diverse array of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Enhancing the richness of the experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. This is no small undertaking; Showcrest, a longstanding tradition during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable and unforgettable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses play a vital role in the Summer Camp experience. At Oak Crest’s location in 07931, New Jersey, we have established a low ropes course with dual objectives: promoting the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkins and equipping them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. Engaging in the Low Ropes Course, our young campers spend their time climbing, exploring, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the utmost safety, our ropes courses undergo thorough inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the start of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not merely a life skill; it’s a vital proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in the 07931, New Jersey location. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is evident in our annual instructor training program, which draws upon both American Red Cross guidelines and our extensive practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We can confidently guarantee that your child will become proficient in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our advanced Aquatic Facility features two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand, significantly enhancing their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson conducted by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
A captivating facet of the camp experience is the nurturing of children’s aptitude for navigating group dynamics, resulting in heightened confidence and independence. While transitioning between diverse activities, the group actively participates in cultivating friendships, fostering collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff. Our dedicated staff plays a pivotal role in empowering Munchkin campers to express their thoughts verbally and guides them in practicing direct communication. Oak Crest fosters a supportive environment where children acquire crucial emotional and social skills necessary for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a distinct dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp, enjoying the initial lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, assuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
