In the 07934 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest offers two distinct programs: a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program. Within our Munchkin Division, we maintain an exceptional camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers with the support of 3 to 4 staff members. Furthermore, each activity is closely supervised by a specialized Munchkin Specialist, who is specifically recruited and trained to meet the unique needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-old children.
The Munchkin Program is designed with a comprehensive approach in mind, focusing on three key aspects. Firstly, it aims to enhance gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities. Secondly, the program emphasizes the development of swimming skills. Finally, it actively promotes the social development of young participants.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored to the capabilities of our youngest campers. These activities include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, all carefully adapted to ensure that even our 3, 4, and 5-year-old participants can experience success. Our athletic specialists, who possess specialized training for working with children in this age group, guide your child through the process of learning the fundamental skills of these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner, fostering their enjoyment and development.
Creative Arts
Located in 07934, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center is a distinguished hub for artistic expression. Here, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors. Weekly, our campers actively participate in a variety of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
What adds to the richness of this experience is the annual Showcrest production, in which each Munchkin group contributes to a grand Dance and Drama Production. Far from a modest affair, Showcrest, a tradition during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting to create a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are essential elements of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s location in 07934, NJ. We have established a low ropes course with a dual focus: fostering the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkin campers and equipping them with the necessary skills to navigate our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young participants engage in activities such as climbing, exploring, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the highest level of safety, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the start of each season. Additionally, our certified ropes instructors, who lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a basic life skill; it’s a crucial proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in the 07934, NJ location. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is evident in our annual instructor training program, which draws from both American Red Cross guidelines and a wealth of practical experience accumulated over 25 years of teaching children to swim. We wholeheartedly guarantee that your child will achieve mastery in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our cutting-edge Aquatic Facility features two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand, enhancing their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with assistance from group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
A significant and captivating aspect of the camp experience is the development of children’s ability to navigate group dynamics. This process plays a pivotal role in enhancing their confidence and independence. As they transition between different activities, the group actively participates in fostering friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both their peers and the staff. Our committed team empowers Munchkin campers to express their thoughts using verbal communication and provides guidance in effective interpersonal interactions. Munchkin Lunch
To meet the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp, enjoying the first lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, providing a personalized and accommodating approach to ensure their well-being.
