In 07977, NJ, Oak Crest offers two programs in its Munchkin Division: a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program. The camp maintains a low camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers per 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, each activity is supervised by a Munchkin Specialist who is specifically recruited and trained to cater to the needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program focuses on three main aspects:
1. Enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities.
2. Teaching swimming skills.
3. Promoting social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored for our youngest campers. These scaled-down sports include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, all designed to enable our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers to experience success. Our athletic specialists, with specialized training in working with this age group, guide your child in learning the fundamental skills of these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Located in 07977, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as an exceptional hub for artistic expression. Here, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms led by experienced art instructors. On a weekly basis, our campers actively participate in diverse activities such as Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
To enhance the overall experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. This event, which takes place during the 6th week of camp, is far from modest. It unfolds in the evening at a local venue and features professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are fundamental elements of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 07977, NJ location. We have designed a low ropes course with two primary objectives: to enhance the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkins and to equip them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. During their participation in the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in activities such as climbing, exploring, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
To prioritize safety, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. Additionally, our certified ropes instructors, who lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it’s a crucial proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex located in 07977, NJ. Our dedication to excellence is evident in our annual instructor training program, which adheres to American Red Cross guidelines and draws upon over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We wholeheartedly guarantee that your child will become proficient in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our novice swimmers, our cutting-edge Aquatic Facility features two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This enhances their comfort and initial progress in the water. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with both fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating aspects of the camp experience revolves around nurturing children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics. Through this journey, they cultivate heightened confidence and independence. As they transition between different activities, the group actively participates in fostering friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff members. Our dedicated staff is committed to empowering Munchkin campers to express their thoughts using words and guiding them in effective communication. Munchkin Lunch
In order to cater to the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp, and they enjoy the first lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
