In 08540, New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for young campers. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain an exceptionally low camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers with the support of 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, each activity is closely supervised by a Munchkin Specialist who is specifically selected and trained to meet the unique needs of children aged 3, 4, and 5.
The Munchkin Program focuses on a threefold approach: enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, teaching valuable swimming skills, and fostering social development among the young participants.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored to our young campers. These adaptations include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, allowing our youngest participants to experience success in these sports. Our athletic specialists, who undergo specialized training for working with 3, 4, and 5-year-olds, guide your child in acquiring fundamental skills in these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Located in 08540, New Jersey, Oak Crest boasts a remarkable Creative Arts Center that serves as a hub for artistic expression. Your child will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse array of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, guided by experienced art instructors. On a weekly basis, our campers actively participate in a wide range of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Furthermore, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production that adds depth to the camp experience. This event, held during the 6th week of camp, takes place in the evening at a local venue and features professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral components of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 08540, NJ location. We have designed a low ropes course with dual objectives: promoting the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkin campers and equipping them with the essential skills needed to navigate our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young participants engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging activities, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the highest level of safety, our ropes courses undergo thorough inspection and certification by the construction company responsible for their creation at the beginning of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, perform daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it’s a vital proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex located in 08540, NJ. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is demonstrated through our annual training of instructors, which incorporates American Red Cross guidelines and leverages over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We guarantee that your child will become a proficient swimmer at Oak Crest.
For our beginner swimmers, our Aquatic Facility is equipped with two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress in learning to swim. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with assistance from group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, promoting camaraderie among fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating elements of the camp experience centers around the development of children’s proficiency in navigating group dynamics. This process fosters enhanced confidence and independence as campers transition between different activities. Within the group setting, children actively engage in the cultivation of friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff members.
Our dedicated staff plays a pivotal role in empowering Munchkin campers to express their thoughts using language and guiding them in effective communication. Oak Crest provides a nurturing environment where children acquire essential emotional and social skills that are integral for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, Munchkins have a distinct dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, allowing our Oak Crest Staff to be attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have. We take a personalized and accommodating approach to ensure their dietary needs are met.
