In the 08816 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for young children. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain an exceptionally favorable camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers per group with the support of 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, we have designated Munchkin Specialists who are specially recruited and trained to address the specific needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program emphasizes a comprehensive approach that includes the development of gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, the acquisition of essential swimming skills, and the facilitation of social development in our young campers.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored to suit the needs of our youngest campers. Our offerings include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, all of which have been adapted to ensure that even our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers can experience success. Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with children in this age group, and under their guidance, your child will thoroughly enjoy acquiring fundamental skills in these sports through age-appropriate and engaging methods.
Creative Arts
Located in 08816, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as a distinguished hub for fostering artistic expression. Here, your child can engage in a diverse array of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors. Each week, our campers actively participate in a wide range of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
What adds to the richness of this experience is the annual Showcrest production, a grand Dance and Drama event in which each Munchkin group contributes. Far from a modest affair, Showcrest is a cherished tradition held during the 6th week of camp. It unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral elements of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 08816, NJ location. We have established a low ropes course with two primary objectives: promoting the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkin campers and equipping them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. During their engagement with the Low Ropes Course, our young campers have the opportunity to climb, explore, and swing, all while remaining just inches above the ground.
Safety is our utmost priority, and our ropes courses undergo rigorous inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the start of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure and safe environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not merely a life skill; it is a crucial proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in the 08816, NJ location. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is evident in our annual training of instructors, drawing upon American Red Cross guidelines and over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We wholeheartedly guarantee that your child will achieve mastery in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our cutting-edge Aquatic Facility is equipped with two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
A significant and captivating aspect of the camp experience centers on nurturing children’s proficiency in navigating group dynamics. This process fosters the development of heightened confidence and independence in campers. As they transition between various activities, the group actively participates in cultivating friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff.
Our dedicated staff plays a pivotal role in empowering Munchkin campers to articulate their thoughts through words and guiding them in direct communication. Oak Crest offers a nurturing environment where children acquire crucial emotional and social skills essential for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
In order to cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkin group has a separate dining arrangement, having the first lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
