In the 08821 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for young campers. Our Munchkin Division maintains an exceptionally favorable camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers per 3 to 4 staff members. Furthermore, each activity is supervised by a specialized Munchkin Specialist, specifically recruited and trained to meet the unique needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program places a strong emphasis on a threefold approach: first, the enhancement of gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities; second, the development of swimming skills; and third, the promotion of social development among our young participants.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored to our youngest campers. These scaled-down adaptations include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, all designed to ensure that our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers can experience success. Our athletic specialists, who have received specialized training for working with this age group, guide your child in learning the fundamental skills of these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Located in the 08821 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center is a distinguished hub for artistic expression. Here, your child can engage in a wide array of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors. Our campers actively participate in a weekly rotation of activities encompassing Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
To enhance the experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. Far from a modest event, Showcrest, a tradition held during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue. It features professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle that adds richness to your child’s camp experience.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral components of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s location in 08821, NJ. Our facility includes a low ropes course designed with dual objectives: to promote the development of gross motor skills among our Munchkin campers and to equip them with the essential skills needed to navigate our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in activities such as climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
Safety is our utmost priority. To ensure the well-being of our campers, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspection and certification by the construction company at the beginning of each season. In addition to this, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure and safe environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it’s a crucial proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex located in the 08821, NJ area. Our commitment to excellence is demonstrated through our annual instructor training, which adheres to American Red Cross guidelines and draws upon our extensive practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We wholeheartedly guarantee that your child will master the art of swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our Aquatic Facility boasts two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can stand comfortably in the water. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with assistance from group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience is the cultivation of children’s proficiency in navigating group dynamics. This process not only fosters heightened confidence and independence but also serves as a platform for developing important life skills. As campers transition between different activities, they actively engage in fostering friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both their peers and staff members. Our dedicated staff is committed to empowering Munchkin campers to articulate their thoughts using language and guiding them in direct communication. At Oak Crest, we provide a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills essential for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkin group has a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, allowing our Oak Crest Staff to be attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have. This ensures a personalized and accommodating approach to their mealtime.
