In the 08822 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for children. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain a highly favorable camper-to-staff ratio, typically having 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, we have dedicated Munchkin Specialists for each activity, who are carefully selected and trained to meet the specific needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program follows a three-pronged approach, focusing on enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, teaching essential swimming skills, and fostering social development in our young campers.
Munchkin Athletics
Oak Crest provides modified versions of various sports activities tailored to our young campers. These adaptations include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, designed to ensure that even the youngest campers can experience success in these sports. Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with children aged 3, 4, and 5, guiding them in learning the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging. Your child will take pleasure in this developmentally appropriate sports experience under their guidance.
Creative Arts
Located in 08822, New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as a remarkable hub for fostering artistic expression. Here, your child can engage in a wide array of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, all under the guidance of experienced art instructors. On a weekly basis, our campers actively participate in a diverse spectrum of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Furthermore, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. This is no small-scale event; Showcrest, a cherished tradition occurring during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue. It features professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle that adds a significant dimension to the overall camp experience.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral elements of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 08822, NJ location. We have developed a low ropes course with a dual purpose: to promote the development of gross motor skills in our young campers and to equip them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in activities such as climbing, exploring, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the highest level of safety, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it’s a vital proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in the 08822, NJ location. Our commitment to excellence is evident in our annual instructor training program, which draws upon both American Red Cross guidelines and over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We wholeheartedly guarantee that your child will become proficient in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginner swimmers, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility features two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This greatly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with their fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
A significant and captivating facet of the camp experience centers around nurturing children’s proficiency in navigating group dynamics. Through this process, children develop enhanced confidence and independence. As they transition between different activities, the group actively participates in the cultivation of friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and acquiring the ability to interact respectfully with both their peers and staff members. Our devoted staff is committed to empowering Munchkin campers to express their thoughts using language and aiding them in developing direct communication skills. Oak Crest offers a supportive environment where children acquire the emotional and social competencies that are vital for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkin group has a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp, allowing them to enjoy the first lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any specific dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
