In the 08824 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest offers two distinct programs: a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program. Within our Munchkin Division, we prioritize maintaining an exceptional camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers per 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, each activity is diligently supervised by a specialized Munchkin Specialist, who is specifically recruited and trained to cater to the unique needs of children aged 3, 4, and 5 years old.
The Munchkin Program is designed with a comprehensive threefold approach in mind. It focuses on enhancing both gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, imparting essential swimming skills, and fostering crucial social development in young children.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide tailored versions of various sports activities to accommodate our youngest campers. Our offerings range from mini-soccer and mini-basketball to t-ball and gymnastics, all carefully adapted to ensure that children aged 3, 4, and 5 can experience success and enjoyment. These activities are conducted under the expert guidance of our athletic specialists, who have received specialized training to work effectively with this age group. Your child will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging.
Creative Arts
Nestled in the 08824 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center stands as a distinguished hub for fostering artistic expression. Here, your child will have the unique opportunity to engage in a wide spectrum of artistic activities, all hosted in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms and led by experienced art instructors.
Our campers actively participate in a weekly rotation of activities, spanning the realms of Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more. What adds further richness to this experience is the involvement of each Munchkin group in the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production.
Far from being a modest affair, Showcrest, a cherished tradition during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting. This creates a truly remarkable spectacle that adds depth and excitement to your child’s camp experience.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral facets of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 08824, NJ location. Here, we have developed a low ropes course with a dual purpose: to foster the development of gross motor skills in our young campers and to equip them with the essential skills needed to navigate our Climbing Tower.
During their engagement with the Low Ropes Course, our young campers participate in activities involving climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while remaining just inches above the ground. Safety is our top priority, and as such, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the start of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to ensure a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not merely a life skill; it is an essential proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex located in the 08824, NJ area. Our commitment to excellence is exemplified by our annual training of instructors, which draws upon both American Red Cross guidelines and over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We unequivocally guarantee that your child will master the art of swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginner swimmers, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility features two shallow pools, designed to ensure that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand in the water. This setup significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers partake in a 40-minute swim lesson, led by a certified swim instructor and assisted by group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, which not only fosters camaraderie among fellow campers but also enhances their interactions with group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating aspects of the camp experience is the deliberate cultivation of children’s ability to navigate group dynamics. This process fosters the development of heightened confidence and independence in campers. As they transition between different activities, the group actively participates in the promotion of friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff.
Our dedicated staff plays a crucial role in empowering Munchkin campers to express themselves through words and guiding them in direct communication. At Oak Crest, we create a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills that are essential for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To meet the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a designated dining arrangement that includes the first lunch period of the day, separate from the rest of the camp. Our Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any specific dietary requirements your child may have, and we take a personalized and accommodating approach to ensure their well-being.
