In 08828, New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for young campers. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain a highly favorable camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers with the support of 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, each activity is supervised by a specialized Munchkin Specialist, extensively trained to meet the unique needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program focuses on a threefold approach, which includes enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, imparting swimming skills, and fostering social development.
Munchkin Athletics
Oak Crest provides modified versions of various sports activities tailored to the developmental stage of our youngest campers. Our offerings include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics. These traditional sports have been adjusted to ensure that even our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers can experience success.
Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with children in this age group. Under their guidance, your child will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging, fostering a love for physical activity.
Creative Arts
Located in 08828, New Jersey, Oak Crest boasts a distinguished Creative Arts Center that serves as an exceptional hub for nurturing artistic expression. Here, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, all under the guidance of experienced art instructors.
On a weekly basis, our campers actively participate in a diverse range of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
To enrich the overall experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. Far from modest, Showcrest, a cherished tradition during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses play pivotal roles in the Summer Camp experience. At Oak Crest’s 08828, New Jersey location, we have established a low ropes course with dual objectives: first, to foster the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkins, and second, to equip them with the essential skills needed to navigate our Climbing Tower. During their engagement with the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging activities, all conducted just inches above the ground.
To ensure the utmost safety, our ropes courses undergo a rigorous inspection and certification process by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming transcends being a mere life skill; it stands as a fundamental proficiency best acquired in our recently constructed, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex at our 08828, New Jersey location. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is evident in our annual instructor training program, which draws from both American Red Cross guidelines and an extensive practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children how to swim. We confidently assure you that your child will achieve mastery in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our novice swimmers, our cutting-edge Aquatic Facility boasts two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand, thereby enhancing their comfort level and initial progress. Every morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson, led by a certified swim instructor and supported by group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering bonds and camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience centers on nurturing children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics. This process not only fosters heightened confidence and independence but also encourages the development of vital social skills. As campers transition between different activities, they actively participate in building friendships, collaborating, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both their peers and camp staff.
Our dedicated staff plays a pivotal role in empowering Munchkin campers to articulate their thoughts using words and guides them in direct communication. At Oak Crest, we provide a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills that are crucial for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
In order to cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, Munchkins have a designated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp, allowing them to enjoy the first lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
