In 08850, NJ, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for young campers. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain an excellent camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, we ensure that each activity is supervised by a Munchkin Specialist, who has undergone specialized training to meet the needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program adopts a comprehensive approach that focuses on three key aspects: the development of gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, the acquisition of swimming skills, and the promotion of social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored to our youngest campers. These scaled-down sports offerings include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics. We’ve adapted these traditional sports to ensure that even our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers can experience success.
Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with children in this age group, guiding them in learning the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging. Your child will delight in their sports experiences with us.
Creative Arts
Nestled within 08850, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as a distinguished hub for nurturing artistic expression. Your child will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse array of artistic activities in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms led by experienced art instructors.
On a weekly basis, our campers actively participate in a wide range of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more. Adding to the richness of this experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. Far from modest, Showcrest is a cherished tradition that takes place during the 6th week of camp. It unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral aspects of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 08850, NJ location. We have established a low ropes course with two primary objectives: promoting the development of gross motor skills among our young campers and equipping them with the essential skills necessary to tackle our Climbing Tower.
During their engagement with the Low Ropes Course, our young campers spend their time climbing, exploring, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground. Safety is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, our ropes courses undergo a rigorous inspection and certification process by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. In addition to this, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to ensure a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming transcends being a mere life skill; it stands as a vital proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in the 08850, NJ location. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is evident through our annual training of instructors, which draws upon both American Red Cross guidelines and our extensive practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We can confidently guarantee that your child will master the art of swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginner swimmers, our cutting-edge Aquatic Facility includes two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This setup significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Every morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson, led by a certified swim instructor and assisted by group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with both fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating aspects of the camp experience is the nurturing of children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics. This process fosters heightened confidence and independence as they transition between different activities. Within the group setting, campers actively participate in building friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both their peers and staff members.
Our dedicated staff plays a crucial role in empowering Munchkin campers to express their thoughts using words and guiding them in effective communication. Oak Crest offers a supportive environment where children develop the emotional and social skills that are indispensable for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
