In the 08823 area of New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program within our Munchkin Division. Our camp prides itself on maintaining an exceptional camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers per group, with the support of 3 to 4 staff members. Furthermore, we ensure that each activity is supervised by a specialized Munchkin Specialist, who has been specifically recruited and trained to cater to the unique needs of children aged 3, 4, and 5.
The Munchkin Program at Oak Crest adopts a comprehensive threefold approach, focusing on:
1. Enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities.
2. Providing opportunities for campers to acquire essential swimming skills.
3. Promoting the development of crucial social skills in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored to our young campers. These scaled-down sports include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics. Our goal is to adapt traditional sports to ensure that even our youngest campers, aged 3, 4, and 5, can experience success and enjoyment.
Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with children in this age group. Under their guidance, your child will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging.
Creative Arts
Located in 08823, New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as an exceptional hub for artistic expression. Our camp offers a wide range of artistic activities in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms led by experienced art instructors. Each week, our campers actively engage in various creative pursuits, including ceramics, music, cooking, drama, nature exploration, dance, digital photography, jewelry making, computers, and more.
Adding to the depth of the camp experience, each Munchkin group actively contributes to the annual Showcrest event, a grand dance and drama production. This event is far from modest; Showcrest, a cherished tradition held during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue and features professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and ropes courses are integral elements of the Summer Camp adventure at Oak Crest’s 08823, NJ location. We’ve established a low ropes course with a dual purpose: to promote the development of gross motor skills in our young campers and equip them with the necessary skills to navigate our Climbing Tower. During their participation in the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in activities such as climbing, exploring, and swinging, all of which take place just inches above the ground.
Safety is our utmost priority, and as such, our ropes courses undergo thorough inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the start of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to ensure a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming transcends being just a life skill; it represents a crucial proficiency, ideally acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in the 08823, NJ location. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is reflected in our annual instructor training, which draws from both American Red Cross guidelines and a wealth of practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We confidently guarantee that your child will master the art of swimming at Oak Crest.
For our novice swimmers, our cutting-edge Aquatic Facility offers two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with both fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
A captivating facet of the camp experience centers around the nurturing of children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics, fostering heightened confidence and independence in the process. While transitioning between diverse activities, campers actively participate in building friendships, collaborative endeavors, sharing, taking turns, and learning to engage respectfully with both peers and staff. Our dedicated team empowers Munchkin campers to express themselves verbally and encourages direct communication. Oak Crest creates a supportive environment where children develop the emotional and social skills vital for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, Munchkins have a designated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp, where they enjoy the first lunch period of the day. The Oak Crest Staff is diligent in addressing any specific dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
