In 08901, New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program. Our Munchkin Division maintains an exceptionally favorable camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers, each accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, every activity is supervised by a dedicated Munchkin Specialist, who is specifically recruited and trained to meet the needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program prioritizes a comprehensive approach, focusing on three key areas: the enhancement of gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, the development of swimming skills, and the promotion of social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored for our youngest campers. Our offerings include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, all adapted to ensure that children aged 3, 4, and 5 can experience success in these activities. Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with this age group, guiding your child in acquiring the fundamental skills of these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Nestled in 08901, New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as a distinguished hub for nurturing artistic expression. Here, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic activities conducted in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, guided by experienced art instructors. Weekly, our campers actively participate in a diverse range of activities that encompass Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Enhancing the richness of this experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand production featuring dance and drama. This is not a modest affair; Showcrest, a tradition during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses play pivotal roles in the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 08901, NJ location. Here, we’ve established a low ropes course with dual objectives: first, to facilitate the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkin campers, and second, to equip them with the fundamental skills necessary for navigating our Climbing Tower. Engaging in the Low Ropes Course, our young participants spend their time climbing, exploring, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the utmost safety, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not merely a life skill; it is a crucial proficiency best acquired at our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex at the 08901, NJ location. Our commitment to excellence is evident in our annual training of instructors, which incorporates American Red Cross guidelines and draws from a wealth of practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We wholeheartedly guarantee that your child will attain mastery in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility features two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, promoting camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience revolves around the development of children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics. This process plays a pivotal role in fostering increased confidence and independence within them. As they transition between various activities, the group actively participates in fostering friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff. Our committed staff empowers Munchkin campers to express their thoughts verbally and provides guidance in effective communication. Munchkin Lunch
To meet the dietary needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a distinct dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, allowing Oak Crest Staff to pay close attention to any specific dietary requirements your child may have. This ensures a personalized and accommodating approach to their nutritional needs.
