In 08989, NJ, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program. Within our Munchkin Division, we maintain an impressive camper-to-staff ratio of 10 to 12 campers per 3 to 4 staff members. Furthermore, each activity is supervised by a Munchkin Specialist who has been specifically recruited and trained to meet the needs of children aged 3, 4, and 5.
The Munchkin Program focuses on a threefold approach: enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, teaching swimming skills, and fostering social development.
Munchkin Athletics
Oak Crest provides modified versions of various sports activities tailored to suit our youngest campers. These activities range from mini-soccer and mini-basketball to t-ball and gymnastics. We have carefully adjusted traditional sports to ensure that children aged 3, 4, and 5 can experience success in learning the fundamental skills of these sports. Our athletic specialists, who undergo specific training to work with this age group, guide your child in an age-appropriate and engaging manner throughout these activities.
Creative Arts
Located in 08989, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as an exceptional hub for nurturing artistic expression. Here, your child can engage in a wide array of artistic activities in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors. Our campers actively participate in various activities on a weekly basis, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Adding to the depth of this experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, an extravagant Dance and Drama Production. This is no small-scale event; Showcrest, a cherished tradition held during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting to create a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral elements of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s 08989, NJ location. We have designed a low ropes course with dual objectives: first, to enhance the gross motor skills of our Munchkin campers, and second, to equip them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. During their engagement with the Low Ropes Course, our young campers participate in climbing, exploration, and swinging activities, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the utmost safety of our campers, our ropes courses undergo thorough inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the start of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it’s a crucial proficiency that is best acquired in our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex at the 08989, NJ location. Our dedication to excellence is evident in our annual training of instructors, which draws upon American Red Cross guidelines and a wealth of practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We wholeheartedly guarantee that your child will become proficient in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginner swimmers, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility includes two shallow pools to ensure that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with assistance from group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with both fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience revolves around nurturing children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics. This journey fosters increased confidence and independence within them. While transitioning between various activities, the group actively participates in cultivating friendships, collaborative endeavors, sharing, turn-taking, and the art of respectful interaction with both peers and staff members. Our dedicated staff is committed to empowering Munchkin campers to express themselves effectively using language and guiding them in direct communication. Oak Crest offers a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills crucial for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a distinct dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, ensuring they receive the attention they require. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary preferences or restrictions your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
