In Bedminster, NJ, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day and a 3 full-day program in our Munchkin Division. We maintain an exceptional camper-to-staff ratio, with typically 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, each activity is supervised by a specially recruited and trained Munchkin Specialist, dedicated to meeting the unique needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program focuses on a comprehensive threefold approach: enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, imparting swimming skills, and fostering social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of a variety of sports activities tailored for our youngest campers. From mini-soccer and mini-basketball to t-ball and gymnastics, we have customized these traditional sports to ensure that our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers can experience success. Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with this age group, guiding your child in acquiring fundamental skills in these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging.
Creative Arts
Nestled in Bedminster, NJ, Oak Crest boasts an exceptional Creative Arts Center, serving as a premier hub for artistic expression. Here, your child will have the unique opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic pursuits within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, led by experienced art instructors.
Our campers actively participate in a weekly rotation of activities encompassing Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more, fostering their creative talents.
As a special highlight, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production that transcends modest expectations. This beloved tradition, occurring during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, delivering a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
At Oak Crest’s Bedminster, NJ location, our Summer Camp adventure includes essential elements like Climbing and Ropes Courses. We’ve designed a low ropes course with a dual purpose: to enhance the gross motor skills of our Munchkin campers and to equip them with the necessary skills for our Climbing Tower. On the Low Ropes Course, our young participants engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while staying just inches above the ground.
Safety is paramount to us. Each season, our ropes courses undergo rigorous inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide campers through these courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment, ensuring the utmost safety for all participants.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it’s a vital proficiency, and at our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in Bedminster, NJ, we prioritize its acquisition. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is exemplified through our annual instructor training program, which incorporates American Red Cross guidelines and draws upon our extensive 25-year experience in teaching children to swim. We confidently guarantee that your child will master the art of swimming at Oak Crest.
In our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility, designed especially for beginners, we offer two shallow pools, ensuring even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This setup significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, supported by group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, promoting camaraderie among fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience centers around nurturing children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics. This journey not only fosters heightened confidence and independence but also equips them with invaluable life skills. As they transition between different activities, our campers actively engage in fostering friendships, collaborating, sharing, taking turns, and learning respectful interaction with both peers and staff.
Our dedicated staff plays a crucial role in empowering Munchkin campers to express themselves verbally and guides them in direct communication. Oak Crest creates a nurturing environment where children acquire emotional and social skills that are fundamental for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, allowing us to focus on their requirements. Our Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary needs your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
