Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide tailored versions of various sports activities, designed specifically for our youngest campers. From mini-soccer and mini-basketball to t-ball and gymnastics, we’ve customized traditional sports to ensure that even our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers can experience success. Our athletic specialists are highly trained to work with children in this age group, guiding them as they learn the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is age-appropriate and engaging. Your child will delight in their athletic journey with us.
Creative Arts
Nestled in Colonia, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center is a distinguished haven for artistic expression. Your child will have the unique opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic endeavors within our well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, under the guidance of experienced art instructors.
Our campers actively participate in a variety of weekly activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more. Adding to the richness of the experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest—a grand Dance and Drama Production. This is no ordinary event; Showcrest, a cherished tradition during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue. It features professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable and memorable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses play a pivotal role in the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s Colonia, NJ location. We have implemented a low ropes course with dual objectives: first, to foster the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkins, and second, to equip them with the essential skills needed to navigate our Climbing Tower.
During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in activities such as climbing, exploring, and swinging, all while staying just inches above the ground. Safety is of paramount importance to us. At the beginning of each season, our ropes courses undergo a thorough inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to ensure a secure environment for our campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is more than just a life skill; it’s a crucial proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in Colonia, NJ. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is exemplified through our annual training of instructors, drawing from American Red Cross guidelines and a wealth of practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We confidently guarantee that your child will achieve mastery in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility boasts two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with assistance from group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience revolves around nurturing children’s ability to navigate group dynamics. This transformative process enables them to cultivate heightened confidence and independence. As they transition between diverse activities, the group actively participates in the development of friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff. Our devoted staff empowers Munchkin campers to express their thoughts verbally and fosters direct communication skills. Oak Crest offers a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills that are indispensable for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To meet the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, allowing for a more tailored experience. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
