3-5 Year Olds (Munchkins) Summer Camp near Green Brook
In Green Brook, New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for young children. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain a highly favorable camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, we ensure that each activity is overseen by a Munchkin Specialist, who is specifically recruited and trained to meet the unique needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program focuses on a threefold approach, which includes:
1. Enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities.
2. Teaching swimming skills to the young participants.
3. Promoting social development among the children.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored for our youngest campers. These scaled-down adaptations include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics. Our aim is to ensure that even the youngest participants can experience success in these traditional sports.
Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with children aged 3, 4, and 5 years old. Under their guidance, your child will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging, fostering an enjoyable and enriching experience.
Creative Arts
Nestled in Green Brook, New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center is a distinguished hub for artistic expression. Here, your child will have the unique opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic activities, all conducted within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors.
Each week, our campers actively participate in a diverse range of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more. Adding to the depth of this artistic experience, every Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production.
Far from being a modest affair, Showcrest, a cherished tradition held during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue. It features professional-grade sound and lighting to create a truly remarkable spectacle that showcases the creative talents of our young campers.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses play a vital role in the Summer Camp experience at our Green Brook, NJ location. We have established a low ropes course with two primary objectives: fostering the development of gross motor skills in our young campers and equipping them with the essential skills necessary for navigating our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our campers engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
Ensuring the utmost safety of our campers is paramount. To achieve this, our ropes courses undergo rigorous inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure and safe environment for our campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming transcends being just a life skill; it’s a fundamental proficiency that is best acquired in our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex at our Green Brook, NJ location. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is exemplified through our annual training of instructors, which draws from American Red Cross guidelines and an extensive practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We unequivocally assure you that your child will master the art of swimming at Oak Crest.
In our Aquatic Facility, designed with beginners in mind, we have two shallow pools to ensure that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This setup significantly enhances their comfort and initial progress. Each morning, our campers engage in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with support from group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie among fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience centers around nurturing children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics, fostering heightened confidence and independence. As campers transition between different activities, they actively participate in the development of friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff. Our committed staff plays a pivotal role in empowering Munchkin campers to express their thoughts through verbal communication, guiding them towards direct and effective communication. Oak Crest offers a supportive environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills that are fundamental for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
In order to meet the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a distinct dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp, with the privilege of enjoying the first lunch period of the day. Our Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
