3-5 Year Olds (Munchkins) Summer Camp near Middlesex
In Middlesex, NJ, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for children. Our Munchkin Division maintains an excellent camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers with 3 to 4 staff members per group. Additionally, each activity is supervised by a specialized Munchkin Specialist, carefully selected and trained to meet the specific needs of children aged 3, 4, and 5.
The Munchkin Program focuses on three key aspects: enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, teaching swimming skills, and fostering social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored for our youngest campers. These scaled-down versions encompass activities such as mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics. Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers, ensuring that your child can successfully learn the fundamental skills of these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Nestled in Middlesex, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as an exceptional hub for fostering artistic expression. Here, your child can engage in a wide array of artistic activities conducted in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors. On a weekly basis, our campers actively participate in activities that encompass Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature Exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Adding depth to this creative experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand production involving dance and drama. Far from being a modest event, Showcrest is a longstanding tradition held during the sixth week of camp. It takes place in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable and memorable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are essential components of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest in Middlesex, NJ. We have established a low ropes course at our location with two primary objectives: developing gross motor skills in our Munchkin campers and equipping them with the necessary skills for navigating our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in activities involving climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the utmost safety of our campers, our ropes courses undergo a thorough inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. In addition, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure and safe environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it’s a crucial proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in Middlesex, NJ. Our dedication to excellence is demonstrated through our annual instructor training program, which incorporates American Red Cross guidelines and over 25 years of practical teaching experience in children’s swimming. We unequivocally guarantee that your child will master swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our Aquatic Facility includes two shallow pools to ensure even the youngest campers can comfortably stand, enhancing their comfort and initial progress. Every morning, campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the support of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors.
Social Development
A significant and enchanting facet of the camp experience revolves around nurturing children’s capacity to navigate group dynamics, fostering heightened confidence and independence. As they transition between diverse activities, the group actively participates in building friendships, collaborating, sharing, taking turns, and developing respectful interactions with both peers and staff. Our dedicated team empowers Munchkin campers to express themselves verbally and encourages direct communication. Oak Crest offers a nurturing environment where children acquire vital emotional and social skills necessary for lifelong success.
Munchkin Lunch
To meet the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, allowing our Oak Crest Staff to be attentive to any specific dietary requirements your child may have. This personalized and accommodating approach ensures that your child’s dietary needs are met with care and consideration.
