3-5 Year Olds (Munchkins) Summer Camp near New Brunswick
In New Brunswick, New Jersey, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program for young children. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain an optimal camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Furthermore, each activity is supervised by a dedicated Munchkin Specialist, who is specifically recruited and trained to address the needs of children aged 3, 4, and 5.
The Munchkin Program focuses on a threefold approach: enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, teaching swimming skills, and fostering social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored for our youngest campers. Our offerings include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, all designed to ensure that children as young as 3, 4, and 5 can experience success in these activities. Our athletic specialists, who undergo specific training to work with this age group, guide your child in acquiring fundamental sports skills in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Located in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as a distinguished hub for fostering artistic expression. Your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art instructors. Weekly, our campers actively participate in diverse activities including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Adding to the depth of this experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. This is not a modest affair; Showcrest, a tradition during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are integral components of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s New Brunswick, NJ location. We have established a low ropes course with dual objectives: enhancing the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkins and equipping them with the essential skills needed to navigate our Climbing Tower. During the Low Ropes Course activities, our young campers engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the highest level of safety, our ropes courses undergo thorough inspection and certification by the construction company responsible for them at the beginning of each season. Additionally, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming, beyond being a crucial life skill, represents an essential proficiency that is optimally acquired at Oak Crest’s newly established, state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in New Brunswick, NJ. Our unwavering dedication to excellence is evident in our annual instructor training, which draws upon both American Red Cross guidelines and a wealth of practical experience spanning over 25 years in teaching children to swim. We unequivocally guarantee that your child will achieve mastery in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our novice swimmers, our Aquatic Facility boasts two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can confidently stand, thereby enhancing their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson, led by a certified swim instructor and assisted by group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
One of the most captivating aspects of the camp experience is the cultivation of children’s proficiency in navigating group dynamics. This process fosters heightened confidence and independence in campers. As they transition between diverse activities, the group actively participates in cultivating friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff members. Our committed staff empowers Munchkin campers to express their thoughts verbally and offers guidance in effective communication. Oak Crest offers a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills vital for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
In order to cater to the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, allowing our Oak Crest Staff to be attentive to any specific dietary requirements your child may have. This ensures a personalized and accommodating approach to their dietary needs.
