3-5 Year Olds (Munchkins) Summer Camp near Piscataway
In Piscataway, New Jersey, Oak Crest offers two distinct programs: a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program. Within our Munchkin Division, we maintain an exceptionally favorable camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Furthermore, each activity is closely supervised by a Munchkin Specialist, carefully selected and trained to meet the unique needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program places a strong emphasis on a threefold approach, which includes the enhancement of gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, the development of swimming skills, and the fostering of social growth.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide tailored versions of a range of sports activities, offering mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, all designed to cater to the unique needs of our youngest campers. We’ve adapted these traditional sports to ensure that children aged 3, 4, and 5 can experience success and enjoyment.
Our athletic specialists are specifically trained to work with this age group, guiding your child in acquiring the fundamental skills of these sports in a manner that is both age-appropriate and engaging.
Creative Arts
Located in Piscataway, New Jersey, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as an exceptional hub for fostering artistic expression. Here, your child will have the unique opportunity to engage in a wide variety of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, all under the guidance of experienced art instructors.
On a weekly basis, our campers actively participate in a diverse range of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Furthermore, to enrich the overall experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest event—a grand Dance and Drama Production. This event is far from modest, as Showcrest, which takes place during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue and features professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses are fundamental components of the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s Piscataway, NJ location. We have developed a low ropes course with a dual purpose: to nurture the development of gross motor skills in our young campers and to equip them with the essential skills necessary to navigate our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in activities such as climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
In the interest of safety, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspections and certification by the construction company responsible for their installation at the start of each season. Additionally, our certified ropes instructors, who lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for our campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not just a life skill; it is a vital proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex at our Piscataway, NJ location. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is demonstrated through our annual instructor training, which draws from both American Red Cross guidelines and over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We confidently assure you that your child will master the art of swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility includes two shallow pools, designed to ensure that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand. This significantly enhances their comfort level and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
The camp experience holds a particularly captivating element in its focus on cultivating children’s proficiency in navigating group dynamics. Through this immersive process, campers develop enhanced confidence and independence. While transitioning between various activities, the group actively participates in the development of friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to engage respectfully with both peers and staff members. Our dedicated staff plays a crucial role in empowering Munchkin campers to express their thoughts using verbal communication and guiding them in effective interpersonal interactions. Oak Crest offers a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills that are fundamental for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the specific nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkin group has a distinct dining arrangement that provides them with the first lunch period of the day. Our Oak Crest Staff is vigilant and responsive to any dietary requirements your child may have, guaranteeing a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
