3-5 Year Olds (Munchkins) Summer Camp near Skillman
In Skillman, NJ, Oak Crest offers both a 5 full-day program and a 3 full-day program within our Munchkin Division. We maintain an exceptional camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers per group, accompanied by 3 to 4 staff members. Additionally, each activity is supervised by a specialized Munchkin Specialist who is specifically recruited and trained to meet the unique needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
The Munchkin Program places a strong emphasis on a threefold approach: firstly, enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities; secondly, imparting essential swimming skills; and finally, fostering social development among our young campers.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored to the abilities of our youngest campers. Our offerings include mini-soccer, mini-basketball, t-ball, and gymnastics, all designed to facilitate success for children in the 3 to 5-year-old age group. Our team of athletic specialists is extensively trained to work with children in this age range, ensuring that your child not only learns but also thoroughly enjoys acquiring the fundamental skills of these sports in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Creative Arts
Located in Skillman, NJ, the Creative Arts Center at Oak Crest serves as an exceptional hub for nurturing artistic expression. Your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide array of artistic activities held in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, all under the guidance of experienced art instructors. Each week, our campers actively participate in a diverse range of activities, including Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
What adds further depth to this experience is that each Munchkin group actively contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. This is no ordinary event; Showcrest, a cherished tradition held during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, featuring professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle for all involved.
Low Ropes
Climbing and Ropes Courses play vital roles in the Summer Camp experience at Oak Crest’s Skillman, NJ location. We have established a low ropes course with dual objectives: first, to foster the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkin campers, and second, to equip them with the essential skills needed to navigate our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while being just inches above the ground.
To ensure the utmost safety, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the start of each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who lead the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
Swimming is not merely a life skill; it’s a vital proficiency that is best acquired at our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex in Skillman, NJ. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is demonstrated through our annual instructor training program, which draws upon both American Red Cross guidelines and over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We confidently guarantee that your child will achieve mastery in swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginner swimmers, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility includes two shallow pools, ensuring that even the youngest campers can comfortably stand, thereby enhancing their comfort level and initial progress. Every morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
One of the most captivating facets of the camp experience revolves around the development of children’s proficiency in navigating group dynamics. This process not only fosters heightened confidence and independence but also plays a pivotal role in shaping their character. As they transition between various activities, the group actively participates in promoting friendships, collaborative efforts, sharing, taking turns, and learning to interact respectfully with both peers and staff.

Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, the Munchkins have a dedicated dining arrangement separate from the rest of the camp. They enjoy the first lunch period of the day, allowing for a focused and tailored approach to their dietary requirements. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any specific dietary needs your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach to their meals.
