3-5 Year Olds (Munchkins) Summer Camp near South Plainfield
Oak Crest in South Plainfield, NJ, offers both a 5 full-day and a 3 full-day program. In our Munchkin Division, we maintain an exceptional camper-to-staff ratio, typically ranging from 10 to 12 campers with 3 to 4 staff members per group. Each activity is overseen by a Munchkin Specialist, specially recruited and trained to cater to the unique needs of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds.
Our Munchkin Program focuses on a threefold approach, which includes enhancing gross and fine motor skills through engaging athletic and creative activities, teaching swimming skills, and fostering social development.
Munchkin Athletics
At Oak Crest, we provide modified versions of various sports activities tailored to our youngest campers. From mini-soccer and mini-basketball to t-ball and gymnastics, we have adjusted traditional sports to ensure that our 3, 4, and 5-year-old campers can experience success. Our athletic specialists, trained specifically to work with this age group, guide your child in acquiring fundamental skills in these sports through age-appropriate and engaging methods.
Creative Arts
Located in South Plainfield, NJ, Oak Crest’s Creative Arts Center serves as a distinguished hub for artistic expression. Your child will have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of artistic activities within well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms, guided by experienced art instructors. Weekly, our campers actively participate in activities encompassing Ceramics, Music, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Adding to the richness of the experience, each Munchkin group contributes to the annual Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. Far from a modest affair, Showcrest, a tradition during the 6th week of camp, unfolds in the evening at a local venue, complete with professional-grade sound and lighting, creating a truly remarkable spectacle.
Low Ropes
At Oak Crest’s South Plainfield, NJ location, our Summer Camp adventure includes essential components like Climbing and Ropes Courses. We have designed a low ropes course with dual objectives: promoting the development of gross motor skills in our Munchkins and equipping them with the necessary skills for our Climbing Tower. During their time on the Low Ropes Course, our young campers engage in climbing, exploration, and swinging, all while remaining just inches above the ground.
To ensure the utmost safety, our ropes courses undergo rigorous inspection and certification by the company responsible for their construction at the beginning of each season. Additionally, our certified ropes instructors, who guide the groups through all ropes courses, conduct daily checks to maintain a secure environment for the campers.
Learn to Swim
At our South Plainfield, NJ location, we consider swimming not just a life skill but a crucial proficiency best acquired in our newly established, cutting-edge 12,000 square foot Aquatic Complex. Our commitment to excellence is evident through our annual training of instructors, which combines American Red Cross guidelines with over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. We unequivocally guarantee that your child will master the art of swimming at Oak Crest.
For our beginners, our state-of-the-art Aquatic Facility boasts two shallow pools, ensuring even the youngest campers can comfortably stand, enhancing their comfort and initial progress. Each morning, our campers participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by a certified swim instructor, with the assistance of group counselors. In the afternoons, they return to the Aquatic Complex for 40 minutes of free swim, fostering camaraderie with fellow campers and group counselors alike.
Social Development
One of the most captivating aspects of the camp experience is the cultivation of children’s ability to navigate group dynamics. This process fosters heightened confidence and independence as they transition between various activities. Within the group, campers actively develop friendships, engage in collaborative efforts, practice sharing, taking turns, and learn respectful interaction with both peers and staff. Our dedicated staff empowers Munchkin campers to express their thoughts verbally and guides them in effective communication. Oak Crest offers a nurturing environment where children acquire the emotional and social skills essential for success in life.
Munchkin Lunch
To cater to the nutritional needs of our preschool campers, Munchkins have a distinct dining arrangement, enjoying the first lunch period of the day separate from the rest of the camp. The Oak Crest Staff is highly attentive to any dietary requirements your child may have, ensuring a personalized and accommodating approach.
