Junior Athletics
Our Junior program in 07059, New Jersey, offers an extensive array of athletic activities conducted on full-size fields. Each week, campers engage in Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. In addition to these sports, juniors have the chance to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, led by dedicated Athletic Specialists. These sessions include skill instruction followed by games that help reinforce the newly acquired skills. Oak Crest counselors actively participate in these activities, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful success opportunities for the campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups participate in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. The activities and opponents change weekly, providing a dynamic and competitive experience for our young campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a wide array of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers, all within the comfort of air-conditioned classrooms in 07059, NJ. Our campers participate in activities such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Camper vs. Wild adventures, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more on a weekly basis.
Moreover, all Junior Girl groups get the chance to shine by showcasing a dance routine in our annual event, Showcrest – a grand Dance and Drama Production. This significant production takes place during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening and features professional sound and lighting to create a truly memorable experience for both participants and audience alike.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is a foundational element of the Oak Crest experience. Our state-of-the-art aquatic facility in 07059, NJ, is second to none. For 3rd Grade Juniors, we have a recently constructed 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex tailored exclusively for ages 3 to 8, while 4th grade Juniors enjoy the Gigantic Pool, featuring eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water areas, allowing us to introduce all swimmers to standing depth and gradually progress them to deeper waters as their skills improve.
Every morning, Juniors engage in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. Our swim lessons are skill-based, ensuring a challenging experience for swimmers of all levels, rather than being age-based. Our instructors undergo annual training and certification, adhering not only to American Red Cross standards but also drawing from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in 07059, NJ, mastering the art of riding a bicycle is a significant childhood milestone, and we provide the ideal setting for children to achieve this goal through our brand new Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond promoting independence, cycling imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer personalized attention, allowing novice riders to build the confidence they need. As campers progress, they have the opportunity to participate in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, where Oak Crest provides appropriately sized bikes and helmets for their enjoyment and safety.
Ropes Courses
In 07059, NJ, our Junior campers at Oak Crest have the exciting opportunity to experience all of our Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to become familiar with belaying techniques and navigate various elements similar to those found in our High Ropes Course. The Climbing Tower boasts two distinct rock walls, a thrilling 200-yard zip line, and an exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course offers additional rock walls and challenging mid-air obstacles.
To ensure the safety of our campers, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive safety inspections and certification before each season, conducted by the same company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide groups through these courses, conduct daily inspections to maintain ongoing safety standards.
Choice
In 07059, NJ, our campers have the opportunity to exercise their preferences during the Choice period, where they can select an activity for the week. Every week, campers have the chance to explore a new activity from a regularly updated list. In addition to a wide range of athletic and creative options, our Junior campers can also opt to participate in our annual Drama Production or engage in a specific Dance routine. This special annual event is known as ‘Showcrest’ and allows campers to showcase their talents and creativity.
Social Development
