At Oak Crest in 07076, NJ, junior campers engage in a diverse array of activities such as Archery, Mountain Biking, Lacrosse, High Ropes, BMX, Skatepark, Camper vs. Wild (pioneering), and more. Their schedule offers a blend of athletic and creative pursuits, including Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. An exclusive benefit for Junior campers is the Late Night program, which allows them to extend their stay for an exceptional dinner, additional swim time, extra games, a special event, and a twilight campfire featuring S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program, located in 07076, New Jersey, offers a wide range of athletic activities on full-size fields. Weekly schedules feature sports such as Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. In addition, juniors have the opportunity to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, led by Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction followed by games to reinforce newly acquired skills. Oak Crest counselors actively participate, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful success opportunities for campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups engage in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. The activities and opponents rotate weekly, providing a dynamic and competitive experience for our campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will have the opportunity to explore a variety of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms in 07076, NJ. Our campers actively participate in activities such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more on a weekly basis.
Additionally, all Junior Girl groups have the chance to showcase a dance routine in our annual event, Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. This significant production occurs during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, complete with professional sound and lighting for a memorable experience.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is an integral part of our camp experience, set within our state-of-the-art aquatic facility in 07076, NJ. Our aquatic facilities are second to none, with 3rd Grade Juniors benefiting from our recently constructed 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex designed exclusively for 3-8 year-olds, while 4th Grade Juniors enjoy our Gigantic Pool, featuring eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water to initiate all swimmers in standing depth and progressively advance their skills into deeper waters.
Every morning, our Juniors engage in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing support. These lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, ensuring that swimmers of all levels are appropriately challenged. Our instructors are annually trained and certified, drawing from American Red Cross standards and over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest, located in 07076, NJ, mastering the art of riding a bicycle is recognized as a significant childhood milestone. Our campers have the ideal environment to achieve this milestone in our newly established Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond fostering independence, cycling imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors provide personalized attention, helping novice riders build the confidence they need. As campers progress, they can participate in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, for which Oak Crest provides appropriately sized bikes and helmets.
Ropes Courses
In 07076, NJ, our Junior campers have the opportunity to participate in all of Oak Crest’s Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to acquaint themselves with belaying techniques and navigate various elements similar to those found in our High Ropes Course. The Climbing Tower features two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course presents additional rock walls and mid-air challenges for campers seeking more adventure.
To ensure safety, our ropes courses undergo thorough inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction before each season. In addition, our certified ropes instructors, who guide groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to maintain ongoing safety standards.
Choice
In 07076, NJ, during the Choice period, our campers have the opportunity to select an activity for the week. Each week, campers can explore a new activity from an ever-evolving list of options. In addition to a wide range of athletic and creative choices, Junior campers can also elect to participate in our annual Drama Production or be a part of a special Dance routine. This yearly event is known as Showcrest.
Social Development
