At Oak Crest in 07690, NJ, junior campers enjoy a diverse array of activities such as Archery, Mountain Biking, Lacrosse, High Ropes, BMX, Skatepark, Camper vs. Wild (pioneering), and more. Their schedule includes a mix of athletic and creative pursuits, as well as Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. A distinctive perk for junior campers is the Late Night program, offering them the opportunity to extend their stay for a special dinner, extra swim time, additional games, unique events, and a twilight campfire complete with S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program in 07690, New Jersey, offers a wide range of athletic activities on full-size fields. Weekly schedules feature sports like Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. Juniors also have the chance to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, led by Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction followed by skill-reinforcing games. Oak Crest counselors actively engage, aiding specialists in creating meaningful success opportunities for campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups participate in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. These activities and opponents change weekly, ensuring a dynamic and competitive experience for our campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms in 07690, NJ. Our campers engage in activities such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more on a weekly basis.
Additionally, all Junior Girl groups take part in a special event called ‘Showcrest,’ an annual grand Dance and Drama Production. This significant showcase occurs during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, featuring professional sound and lighting to highlight the talents of our young performers.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is an integral part of the Oak Crest experience, centered around our state-of-the-art aquatic facility in 07690, NJ. The 3rd Grade Juniors benefit from our recently constructed, exclusive 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex tailored specifically for ages 3 to 8. Meanwhile, 4th grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, featuring eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water areas, allowing us to initiate all swimmers in standing depth and gradually progress them into deeper water as their skills improve.
Every morning, Juniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. Our swim lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, ensuring a challenge for swimmers of all levels. Our instructors undergo annual training and certification, drawing from both American Red Cross standards and over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in 07690, NJ, mastering the art of riding a bicycle is considered a significant childhood milestone. Our newly established Bicycle Village provides the perfect environment for children to achieve this goal. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond fostering independence, cycling imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and motor skill development. Our experienced instructors offer personalized attention, empowering novice riders to build their confidence. As campers progress, they can take part in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, which includes appropriately sized bikes and helmets provided by Oak Crest.
Ropes Courses
In 07690, NJ, our Junior campers at Oak Crest have the unique opportunity to participate in all of our Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to familiarize themselves with belaying techniques and navigate various elements that resemble those found in our High Ropes Course. The Climbing Tower features two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course offers additional rock walls and mid-air challenges for an added thrill.
Prior to each season, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive safety inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction. Moreover, our certified ropes instructors, who lead groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to ensure the ongoing safety and well-being of our campers.
Choice
In 07690, NJ, during the Choice period at Oak Crest, campers have the freedom to select an activity for the week. Each week, campers can choose from a regularly updated list of options. In addition to a diverse range of athletic and creative activities, Junior campers also have the opportunity to participate in our annual Drama Production or take part in a specific Dance routine as part of our yearly event known as Showcrest.
Social Development
