Their schedule encompasses a mix of athletic and creative pursuits, including Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. Juniors also have the unique perk of participating in the Late Night program, allowing them to extend their stay for a special dinner, additional swim time, extra games, a unique event, and a twilight campfire complete with S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program, located in 07939, New Jersey, offers a diverse array of athletic activities held on full-size fields. Weekly schedules are packed with sports such as Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. Additionally, juniors can partake in our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, both led by Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction followed by engaging games to reinforce newly acquired skills. Oak Crest counselors actively participate, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful success opportunities for campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups compete in sports like Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. These activities and opponents rotate weekly, delivering a dynamic and competitive experience for our young campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will immerse themselves in a variety of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms located in 07939, NJ. Our campers engage in diverse activities such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Camper vs. Wild adventures, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more on a weekly basis.
Additionally, all Junior Girl groups have the opportunity to showcase a dance routine in our annual event, Showcrest. This grand Dance and Drama Production occurs during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, complete with professional sound and lighting, making it a significant and memorable experience for our young campers.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience. Our state-of-the-art aquatic facility in 07939, NJ, is unparalleled in its quality and offerings. 3rd Grade Juniors benefit from our recently constructed, 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex tailored exclusively for 3-8 year-olds. Meanwhile, 4th grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, featuring eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities provide a shallow water section, allowing us to introduce all swimmers in standing depth and gradually progress them into deeper water as their skills advance.
Each morning, Juniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. Our swim lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, ensuring a challenge for swimmers of all levels. We annually train and certify our instructors, adhering not only to American Red Cross standards but also drawing from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools, further enhancing their aquatic proficiency.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in 07939, NJ, mastering the art of riding a bicycle is viewed as a significant childhood milestone, and we provide the ideal environment for children to achieve this goal at our brand new Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond promoting independence, cycling imparts invaluable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer personalized attention, allowing novice riders to build the confidence they need. As campers progress, they can take part in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, which includes appropriately sized bikes and helmets provided by Oak Crest.
Ropes Courses
In 07939, NJ, our Junior campers at Oak Crest have the opportunity to experience all of our exciting Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to familiarize themselves with belaying techniques and navigate various elements similar to those found in our more challenging High Ropes Course. Our Climbing Tower boasts two distinct rock walls, a thrilling 200-yard zip line, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course features additional rock walls and mid-air challenges.
Before the start of each season, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive safety inspections and certification, carried out by the same company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who expertly guide groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to ensure ongoing safety for all participants.
Choice
In 07939, NJ, during the Choice period at Oak Crest, campers have the freedom to select an activity for the week from a regularly updated list. Each week, campers have the opportunity to explore a new activity of their choice. In addition to a range of athletic and creative options, Junior campers can also opt to participate in our annual Drama Production or join a specific Dance routine. This much-anticipated event is known as Showcrest.
