At Oak Crest in 08540, NJ, our Junior campers engage in a dynamic array of activities such as Archery, Mountain Biking, Lacrosse, High Ropes, BMX, Skatepark, Camper vs. Wild (pioneering), and more. Their schedule offers a blend of athletic and creative pursuits, in addition to Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. A distinctive feature for Junior campers is the Late Night program, providing an opportunity to extend their stay for an exclusive dinner, additional swim time, extra games, a special event, and an evening campfire with delightful S’mores.
Junior Athletics
In the 08540 area of New Jersey, our Junior program boasts an extensive array of athletic activities conducted on full-size fields. Our weekly schedules encompass Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. Furthermore, our Junior campers have the opportunity to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, led by experienced Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction followed by skill-reinforcing games. At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where camp groups participate in dynamic matches of Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. These activities and opponents rotate weekly, ensuring a consistently competitive and engaging experience for our campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of artistic activities led by seasoned art educators, all within air-conditioned classrooms in 08540, NJ. Our campers participate in a wide range of creative endeavors such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more on a weekly basis.
Additionally, our Junior Girl groups have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a special annual event called ‘Showcrest.’ This grand Dance and Drama Production occurs during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, complete with professional sound and lighting, offering a memorable platform for our young performers.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program stands as a cornerstone of our camp experience, set within our state-of-the-art aquatic facility in 08540, NJ. Our commitment to aquatic education is unparalleled. The 3rd Grade Juniors benefit from our recently constructed, 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex, thoughtfully designed exclusively for 3-8 year-olds. Meanwhile, our 4th grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, featuring eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer the advantage of shallow water, allowing us to initiate all swimmers in standing depth and progressively challenge them in deeper waters as their skills develop.
Each morning, Juniors partake in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing support. Our approach emphasizes skill-based instruction, ensuring a rewarding experience for swimmers of all levels. We annually train and certify our instructors, drawing not only from American Red Cross standards but also from over 25 years of hands-on experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors enjoy the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
Mastering the art of riding a bicycle stands as a significant childhood milestone, and at Oak Crest’s 08540, NJ location, children have the perfect environment to achieve this goal—the newly developed Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond fostering independence, cycling imparts invaluable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of fine motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer personalized guidance, allowing novice riders to build the confidence they need. As campers advance, they can participate in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, where Oak Crest provides appropriately sized bikes and helmets for their continued growth and enjoyment.
Ropes Courses
In 08540, NJ, our Junior campers have the unique opportunity to experience all of the Oak Crest Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned at a height of 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to become familiar with belaying techniques and navigate various elements reminiscent of those found in our High Ropes Course. The Climbing Tower features two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course offers an array of additional rock walls and mid-air challenges for an exciting adventure.
Prior to each season, our ropes courses undergo rigorous safety inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who expertly guide groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to ensure the ongoing safety of all participants.
Choice
In 08540, NJ, during the Choice period, our campers have the freedom to select an activity of their choice for the week. Each week, campers can explore a fresh array of options from an ever-evolving list of activities. In addition to a wide range of athletic and creative choices, Junior campers also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in our annual Drama Production or participate in a dedicated Dance routine. This highly anticipated annual event is known as ‘Showcrest,’ where they can showcase their talents and creativity.
