An exclusive benefit for juniors is the Late Night program, providing them with the opportunity to extend their stay for a special dinner, extra swim time, additional games, a unique event, and a twilight campfire complete with S’mores.
Junior Athletics
In 08550, New Jersey, our Junior program offers a diverse array of athletic activities conducted on full-size fields. Weekly schedules feature sports like Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. In addition, juniors have the opportunity to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program. These sessions, led by Athletic Specialists, include skill instruction followed by games that reinforce the newly acquired abilities. Oak Crest counselors actively engage in these activities, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful opportunities for camper success.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups participate in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. These activities and opponents rotate weekly, providing a dynamic and competitive experience for our campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will immerse themselves in a variety of creative and artistic activities led by experienced art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms in 08550, NJ. Campers have the opportunity to explore Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more on a weekly basis.
Moreover, our Junior Girl groups culminate their artistic journey by showcasing a dance routine in our annual event, Showcrest – a spectacular Dance and Drama Production. This significant production takes place during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening and features professional sound and lighting for an unforgettable experience.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience. Located in 08550, NJ, our state-of-the-art aquatic facility sets the standard. The 3rd Grade Juniors benefit from our recently constructed 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex, designed exclusively for 3-8 year-olds. Meanwhile, the 4th grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, equipped with eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water areas, allowing us to start all swimmers in standing depth and progressively advance them into deeper waters as their skills improve.
Every morning, Juniors engage in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. Our swim lessons are skill-based, not age-based, ensuring a challenge for swimmers of all proficiency levels. Our instructors undergo annual training and certification, drawing not only from American Red Cross standards but also from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in 08550, NJ, mastering the art of riding a bicycle is a significant childhood milestone, and our campers have the perfect setting for achieving this goal in our brand new Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond promoting independence, cycling instills essential lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors provide individualized attention, helping novice riders build the confidence they need. As campers advance, they can partake in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, with Oak Crest offering appropriately sized bikes and helmets for their enjoyment.
Ropes Courses
In 08550, NJ, our Junior campers have the opportunity to fully engage in all of the Oak Crest Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned at a safe 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to become acquainted with belaying techniques and navigate various elements similar to those found in our High Ropes Course. The Climbing Tower boasts two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course provides additional rock walls and challenging mid-air obstacles.
Before the start of each season, our ropes courses undergo rigorous safety inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who lead groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to ensure ongoing safety.
Choice
In 08550, NJ, during the Choice period, campers have the flexibility to select an activity for the week. Each week, campers can explore a new activity from an ever-evolving list of options. In addition to a range of athletic and creative choices, Juniors also have the opportunity to participate in our annual Drama Production or join a specific Dance routine. This yearly event is known as Showcrest.
