At Oak Crest in 08817, NJ, junior campers engage in a diverse array of activities, such as Archery, Mountain Biking, Lacrosse, High Ropes, BMX, Skatepark, Camper vs. Wild (pioneering), and more. Their schedule includes a mix of athletic and creative pursuits, along with Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. A distinctive benefit for junior campers is the Late Night program, offering extended hours for a special dinner, additional swim time, extra games, a unique event, and a twilight campfire featuring S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program, located in 08817, New Jersey, offers a diverse range of athletic activities on full-size fields. Weekly schedules feature Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. Additionally, juniors have the opportunity to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program. These sessions are led by Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction followed by games to reinforce newly acquired skills. Oak Crest counselors actively participate, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful success opportunities for campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups engage in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. Weekly rotations in activities and opponents ensure a dynamic and competitive experience for our campers.
Creative Arts
In 08817, NJ, your child will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms. Campers can immerse themselves in activities such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more on a weekly basis.
Additionally, all Junior Girl groups participate in a special showcase event known as ‘Showcrest,’ which is a grand Dance and Drama Production. This significant production occurs during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, complete with professional sound and lighting for a truly spectacular experience.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience, featuring a state-of-the-art aquatic facility located in 08817, NJ. Our 3rd Grade Juniors have access to a recently constructed, exclusive 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex tailored specifically for 3-8 year-olds. Meanwhile, our 4th-grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, boasting eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water for initiating swimmers in standing depth and gradually advancing their skills into deeper water.
Each morning, our Juniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. These lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, ensuring a challenging experience for swimmers of all levels. We take pride in annually training and certifying our instructors, drawing not only from American Red Cross standards but also from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in 08817, NJ, mastering the art of riding a bicycle is a significant childhood milestone, and our brand new Bicycle Village provides the ideal setting for children to achieve this skill. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond promoting independence, cycling imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer personalized attention, allowing novice riders to build the confidence they need. As campers progress, they can take part in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, with Oak Crest providing appropriately sized bikes and helmets for their safety.
Ropes Courses
In 08817, NJ, our Junior campers at Oak Crest are provided the opportunity to experience all of our Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to familiarize themselves with belaying and navigate various elements resembling those in our High Ropes Course. The Climbing Tower features two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the thrilling Giant Swing. The High Ropes course extends the adventure with additional rock walls and mid-air challenges.
Prior to each season, our ropes courses undergo rigorous safety inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide groups through the courses, perform daily inspections to ensure ongoing safety.
Choice
In 08817, NJ, during the Choice period, campers at Oak Crest have the opportunity to select an activity for the week. Each week, campers can choose from a continually updated list of options. In addition to a diverse range of athletic and creative activities, Junior campers can also opt to participate in our annual Drama Production or join a specific Dance routine. This much-anticipated annual event is known as Showcrest.
Social Development
