Their schedule is packed with athletic and creative pursuits, along with Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. An exclusive benefit for junior campers is the Late Night program, enabling them to extend their day for a special dinner, extra swim time, additional games, a unique event, and a twilight campfire complete with S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program in 08828, New Jersey, offers a diverse range of athletic activities held on full-size fields. Weekly schedules feature sports like Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. Additionally, juniors have the opportunity to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, led by Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction and organize games to reinforce the newly acquired skills. Oak Crest counselors actively participate, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful success opportunities for campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups participate in competitive Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. These activities and opponents change on a weekly basis, providing a dynamic and engaging experience for our campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms in 08828, New Jersey. Our campers engage in weekly sessions of Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
In addition, all Junior Girl groups take center stage in our annual event, Showcrest, a spectacular Dance and Drama Production. This grand production occurs during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, complete with professional sound and lighting for an unforgettable experience.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience, with our state-of-the-art aquatic facility located in 08828, New Jersey, setting a standard of excellence. Our 3rd Grade Juniors have exclusive access to a recently constructed, 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex designed specifically for 3-8 year-olds. Meanwhile, 4th grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, which boasts eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water areas, allowing us to initiate swimmers in standing depth and gradually progress them into deeper waters as their skills advance.
Every morning, our Juniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. These lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, ensuring that swimmers of all levels are appropriately challenged. Our instructors undergo annual training and certification, drawing not only from American Red Cross standards but also from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in 08828, New Jersey, mastering the art of bicycle riding is a significant childhood milestone, and we provide the perfect setting for children to achieve this goal with our state-of-the-art Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a cutting-edge pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond fostering independence, learning to ride a bike imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer individualized attention, empowering novice riders to build their confidence. As campers progress, they can engage in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, where Oak Crest provides appropriately sized bikes and helmets.
Ropes Courses
In 08828, New Jersey, our Juniors have the unique opportunity to partake in all of Oak Crest’s Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, situated 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to acquaint themselves with belaying techniques and navigate various elements similar to those found in our High Ropes Course. Our Climbing Tower boasts two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the thrilling Giant Swing, while the High Ropes course offers additional rock walls and mid-air challenges.
Prior to each season, our ropes courses undergo rigorous safety inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to ensure the ongoing safety of our campers.
Choice
In 08828, New Jersey, during the Choice period, our campers enjoy the flexibility of selecting their preferred activity for the week. Each week, campers can choose a new activity from a continuously updated list. In addition to a wide range of athletic and creative options, Junior campers also have the opportunity to participate in our annual Drama Production or join a specific Dance routine, which is part of our annual event known as Showcrest.
Social Development
