At Oak Crest in 08853, NJ, junior campers enjoy an array of engaging activities such as Archery, Mountain Biking, Lacrosse, High Ropes, BMX, Skatepark, Camper vs. Wild (pioneering), and more. Their schedule is filled with diverse athletic and creative pursuits, including Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. An exclusive benefit for Junior campers is the Late Night program, providing them with the opportunity to extend their stay for a special dinner, extra swim time, additional games, unique events, and a twilight campfire featuring S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program, situated in 08853, New Jersey, offers a rich variety of athletic activities conducted on full-size fields. Weekly schedules feature Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. In addition, juniors have the opportunity to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, both led by Athletic Specialists. These sessions include skill instruction followed by skill-reinforcing games, with Oak Crest counselors actively participating to facilitate meaningful success experiences for campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups partake in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. The activities and opponents change weekly, ensuring a dynamic and competitive experience for our young campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will immerse themselves in a wide array of artistic activities, led by experienced art instructors in air-conditioned classrooms in 08853, NJ. Our campers actively engage in Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more on a weekly basis.
In addition, all Junior Girl groups participate in a remarkable annual event called Showcrest, a grand Dance and Drama Production. This significant production unfolds during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, complete with professional sound and lighting, where our young talents showcase their dance routines.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is an integral part of our camp experience, set against the backdrop of our state-of-the-art aquatic facility located in 08853, NJ. Our Aquatic Complex, specifically designed for 3rd Grade Juniors, boasts 12,000 square feet of cutting-edge facilities tailored exclusively for children aged 3-8. Meanwhile, our 4th Grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, featuring eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities provide shallow water to ensure that all swimmers can start in standing depth and progress into deeper waters as their skills improve.
Each morning, our Juniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. Our swim lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, ensuring a stimulating experience for swimmers of all proficiency levels. We annually train and certify our instructors, drawing not only from American Red Cross standards but also from over 25 years of practical expertise in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoons, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
Mastering the art of bicycle riding represents a significant childhood milestone, and at Oak Crest’s 08853, NJ location, children have access to an ideal environment for acquiring this skill – the recently established Bicycle Village. This facility comprises a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond promoting independence, cycling imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer personalized attention, empowering novice riders to build their confidence. As campers progress, they can take part in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, for which Oak Crest provides appropriately sized bikes and helmets.
Ropes Courses
In 08853, NJ, our Junior campers have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in all of Oak Crest’s Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned just 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to familiarize themselves with belaying and navigate various elements resembling those found in our High Ropes Course. The Climbing Tower boasts two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course takes the adventure a step further with additional rock walls and mid-air challenges.
Prior to each season, our ropes courses undergo rigorous safety inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who expertly guide groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to ensure ongoing safety.
Choice
In 08853, NJ, during the Choice period, campers enjoy the flexibility to select an activity for the week. Each week, campers can choose from a continually updated list of options, allowing them to explore new activities regularly. In addition to a diverse range of athletic and creative choices, Junior campers also have the opportunity to participate in our annual Drama Production or become part of a specific Dance routine, known as Showcrest, a cherished annual event.
Social Development
