At Oak Crest in 08889, NJ, junior campers embark on a dynamic journey filled with diverse activities such as Archery, Mountain Biking, Lacrosse, High Ropes, BMX, Skatepark, Camper vs. Wild (pioneering), and more. Their schedule encompasses a wide range of athletic and creative pursuits, in addition to Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. A distinctive benefit for junior campers is the Late Night program, which allows them to extend their stay for an exclusive dinner, extended swim time, additional games, a special event, and a twilight campfire featuring delicious S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program in 08889, New Jersey, offers an extensive array of athletic activities on full-size fields. Weekly schedules feature sports like Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. In addition, juniors have the opportunity to explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program. These sessions are led by Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction followed by games that reinforce the newly acquired skills. Oak Crest counselors actively participate, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful opportunities for camper success.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups participate in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. These activities and opponents rotate on a weekly basis, offering our campers a dynamic and competitive experience.
Creative Arts
Your child will immerse themselves in a variety of creative pursuits led by experienced art teachers, in air-conditioned classrooms located in 08889, NJ. Our campers actively engage in activities like Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Camper vs. Wild adventures, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more, on a weekly basis.
Moreover, all Junior Girl groups have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a dance routine during our annual event, Showcrest. This spectacular Dance and Drama Production is a highlight of our program and occurs during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening. Showcrest features professional sound and lighting to create a memorable experience for our campers and their families.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience. Our state-of-the-art aquatic facility, located in 08889, NJ, is truly exceptional. For 3rd Grade Juniors, we have a recently constructed 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex, specifically designed for children aged 3 to 8. Meanwhile, our 4th grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, which boasts eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water, allowing us to accommodate swimmers at standing depth and gradually progress them into deeper water as their skills improve.
Every morning, Juniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with support provided by group counselors. Our swim lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, ensuring a challenge for swimmers of all levels. We annually train and certify our instructors, adhering not only to American Red Cross standards but also drawing from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoons, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in 08889, NJ, mastering the art of riding a bicycle is a significant childhood milestone, and our camp provides the perfect environment for children to achieve this skill in our brand new Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond instilling independence, cycling teaches valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer personalized attention, allowing novice riders to build their confidence. As campers progress, they can also participate in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, where Oak Crest provides appropriately sized bikes and helmets.
Ropes Courses
In 08889, NJ, Juniors at Oak Crest have the unique opportunity to explore all of our Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned 5 feet above the ground, provides campers with the chance to familiarize themselves with belaying and navigate several elements resembling those found in our High Ropes Course. Our Climbing Tower boasts two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. For those seeking more challenges, our High Ropes course offers additional rock walls and mid-air obstacles.
To prioritize safety, our ropes courses undergo comprehensive inspections and certification before each season, conducted by the same company responsible for their construction. Moreover, our certified ropes instructors, who guide groups through the courses, perform daily inspections to maintain ongoing safety standards.
Choice
In 08889, NJ, Oak Crest offers campers the freedom to choose their activities during the Choice period. Every week, campers have the option to select a new activity from a regularly updated list. In addition to a diverse range of athletic and creative choices, Juniors can also opt to participate in our annual Drama Production or join a specific Dance routine, which is part of the yearly event known as Showcrest.
Social Development
