At Oak Crest in 08903, NJ, junior campers enjoy a diverse array of activities such as Archery, Mountain Biking, Lacrosse, High Ropes, BMX, Skatepark, Camper vs. Wild (pioneering), and more. Their schedule includes a mix of athletic and creative pursuits, along with Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. A distinctive benefit for junior campers is the Late Night program, which offers the opportunity to extend their stay for a special dinner, extra swim time, additional games, a unique event, and a twilight campfire complete with S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program in 08903, New Jersey, offers a wide range of athletic activities conducted on full-size fields. Weekly schedules are packed with sports such as Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. In addition, juniors can take part in our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, led by Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction and organize games to reinforce those skills. Oak Crest counselors actively participate, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful success opportunities for campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups engage in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. These activities and opponents change weekly, ensuring a dynamic and competitive experience for our campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a variety of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers, all within air-conditioned classrooms in 08903, NJ. Our campers engage in a weekly rotation of artistic pursuits including Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Additionally, our Junior Girl groups participate in a special showcase where they perform a dance routine during our annual event, Showcrest. This grand Dance and Drama Production occurs in the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, complete with professional sound and lighting, making it a significant highlight of their camp experience.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience. Our state-of-the-art aquatic facility in 08903, NJ, is truly exceptional. Third-grade Juniors have access to our recently constructed, state-of-the-art 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex, designed exclusively for children aged 3 to 8. Meanwhile, fourth-grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, featuring eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water areas, allowing us to start all swimmers in standing depth and gradually progress them into deeper water as their skills improve.
Every morning, Juniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing additional support. Our swim lessons are skill-based, not age-based, ensuring that swimmers of all levels are appropriately challenged. Our instructors undergo annual training and certification, adhering not only to American Red Cross standards but also drawing from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in 08903, NJ, mastering the skill of riding a bicycle is considered a significant childhood milestone, and we provide the ideal setting for children to achieve this milestone through our brand new Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond fostering independence, cycling imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors offer personalized attention, helping novice riders build the confidence they need. As campers progress, they can take part in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, with Oak Crest providing appropriately sized bikes and helmets.
Ropes Courses
In 08903, NJ, our Junior campers have the exciting opportunity to participate in all of Oak Crest’s Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned at a 5-foot elevation above the ground, allows campers to become familiar with belaying and navigate various elements similar to those found in our High Ropes Course. The Climbing Tower features two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course offers even more rock walls and challenging mid-air obstacles.
To prioritize safety, our ropes courses undergo thorough inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction before each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to ensure ongoing safety.
Choice
In 08903, NJ, during the Choice period, campers have the flexibility to select their preferred activity for the week. Every week, campers have the opportunity to choose a new activity from an ever-evolving list of options. In addition to a wide range of athletic and creative choices, Junior campers can also opt to participate in our annual Drama Production or be part of a specific Dance routine. This much-anticipated annual event is known as Showcrest.
Social Development
