Juniors (3rd & 4th Graders) Summer Camp near Somerset County
At Oak Crest in Somerset County, NJ, our junior campers enjoy a dynamic array of activities, such as Archery, Mountain Biking, Lacrosse, High Ropes, BMX, Skatepark, Camper vs. Wild (pioneering), and more. Their schedule is packed with diverse athletic and creative pursuits, including Instructional Swim and the Climbing Tower. Juniors also benefit from an exclusive perk – our Late Night program, which extends their stay for a special dinner, additional swim time, extra games, a unique event, and a twilight campfire complete with S’mores.
Junior Athletics
Our Junior program in Somerset County, New Jersey, provides an extensive range of athletic activities on full-size fields. Weekly schedules encompass Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, and more. Additionally, juniors can explore our Skate Park and Mountain Biking Program, led by Athletic Specialists who offer skill instruction and engaging games. Oak Crest counselors actively participate, fostering meaningful success opportunities for campers.
At the Junior level, we introduce League Play, where groups participate in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball. These activities and opponents rotate weekly, offering a dynamic and competitive experience for our campers.
Creative Arts
Your child will enjoy a wide range of artistic activities led by experienced art teachers in air-conditioned classrooms located in Somerset County, NJ. Our campers engage in weekly sessions of Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature, Camper vs. Wild, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Additionally, all Junior Girl groups have the opportunity to shine as they showcase a dance routine in our annual event, Showcrest. This impressive Dance and Drama Production occurs during the sixth week of camp at a local venue in the evening, complete with professional sound and lighting for an unforgettable experience.
Learn to Swim
At Oak Crest, our Learn to Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience. Our state-of-the-art aquatic facility in Somerset County, NJ, is unmatched in its quality. Our 3rd Grade Juniors benefit from our recently constructed, state-of-the-art 12,000-square-foot Aquatic Complex, designed exclusively for 3-8 year-olds. Meanwhile, our 4th grade Juniors enjoy swimming in our Gigantic Pool, featuring eight 25-meter lanes. Both facilities offer shallow water, allowing us to introduce all swimmers in standing depth and gradually progress them into deeper water as their skills improve.
Every morning, Juniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with group counselors providing assistance. Our swim lessons are skill-based rather than age-based, ensuring a challenging experience for swimmers of all levels. We annually train and certify our instructors, adhering not only to American Red Cross standards but also drawing from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children how to swim. In the afternoon, Juniors have the opportunity for free swim in the pools.
Learn to Ride a Bicycle
At Oak Crest in Somerset County, NJ, we understand that mastering the skill of riding a bicycle is a significant childhood milestone. That’s why we’ve created the perfect environment for children to achieve this milestone at our brand new Bicycle Village. This facility boasts a 1/4 mile training course, a state-of-the-art pump track, and a mountain bike preparation trail. Beyond fostering independence, cycling imparts valuable lessons in balance, posture control, coordination, and the development of motor skills. Our experienced instructors provide personalized attention, allowing novice riders to build the confidence they need. As campers progress, they have the opportunity to participate in our dynamic Mountain Biking Program, where Oak Crest provides appropriately sized bikes and helmets.
Ropes Courses
In Somerset County, NJ, our Junior campers have the unique opportunity to experience all of Oak Crest’s Ropes Courses. The Confidence Course, positioned 5 feet above the ground, allows campers to familiarize themselves with belaying and navigate various elements similar to those found in our High Ropes Course. Our Climbing Tower features two distinct rock walls, a 200-yard zip line, and the thrilling Giant Swing. The High Ropes course offers additional rock walls and mid-air challenges.
To ensure the safety of our campers, our ropes courses undergo thorough safety inspections and certification by the same company responsible for their construction before each season. Furthermore, our certified ropes instructors, who guide groups through the courses, conduct daily inspections to uphold ongoing safety standards.
Choice
In Somerset County, NJ, during the Choice period, our campers have the exciting opportunity to select an activity for the week. Each week, campers can explore a new activity from a constantly updated list of options. In addition to a wide range of athletic and creative choices, our Junior campers can also opt to participate in our annual Drama Production or join a specific Dance routine. This annual event is known as Showcrest.
Social Development
