Seniors (5th & 6th Graders) Summer Camp near Watchung
In Watchung, NJ, senior campers at Oak Crest have the opportunity to fully engage in a wide array of activities, including thrilling day trips such as the highly sought-after visit to Dorney Park. They can also explore a variety of activities, including more advanced options. Among the standout summer events tailored for seniors are ‘Late Nights,’ which offer extended camp access with special dinners, additional swim time, extra games, exclusive events, and a twilight campfire complete with S’mores.
Senior Athletics
At Watchung, NJ, our senior campers enjoy a diverse range of athletic activities on our full-sized fields. Their weekly schedules are filled with sports like Soccer, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Hockey, BMX, Skateboarding, and more. These sessions are led by Athletic Specialists who provide skill instruction followed by gameplay to reinforce the newly acquired skills. Oak Crest counselors actively participate alongside the campers, collaborating with specialists to create meaningful opportunities for success.
Moreover, Senior Boys and Girls incorporate League Play into their schedules, engaging in friendly competitions in Soccer, Handball, Football, and Dodgeball, with rotating activities and opponents each week.
Creative Arts
In Watchung, NJ, your child will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of artistic activities, all conducted in air-conditioned classrooms under the guidance of experienced art teachers. Weekly sessions encompass activities such as Ceramics, Music, Mad Science, Cooking, Drama, Nature exploration, Camper vs. Wild adventures, Dance, Digital Photography, Jewelry Making, Computers, and more.
Additionally, our Senior Girl groups take center stage in our annual Showcrest, a significant Dance and Drama Production held during the 6th week of camp at a local venue. This event is characterized by professional sound and lighting, ensuring a memorable and impactful experience for all.
Learn to Swim
In Watchung, NJ, Oak Crest’s Learn to Swim Program is a cornerstone of the Oak Crest experience, housed in a state-of-the-art aquatic facility. Seniors enjoy exclusive access to the impressive Gigantic Pool, boasting eight 25-meter lanes.
Each morning, seniors participate in a 40-minute swim lesson led by certified swim instructors, with guidance from group counselors. Our swim lessons are skill-based, tailored to individual proficiency levels rather than age. We annually train and certify our own instructors, drawing from over 25 years of practical experience in teaching children to swim. In the afternoons, senior campers have the opportunity to return to the pools for Free Swim.
Ropes Courses
In Watchung, NJ, our senior campers engage in weekly adventures on the Climbing Tower and High Ropes course. The Climbing Tower boasts two distinct rock walls, a thrilling 200-yard Zipline, a Giant Cargo Net, Jacob’s Ladder, and the exhilarating Giant Swing. The High Ropes course offers additional rock walls, mid-air challenges, and a cutting-edge High Ropes Confidence Course.
We prioritize safety and conduct thorough inspections and certifications of our ropes courses before each season, overseen by the company responsible for their construction. Moreover, our certified ropes instructors, who lead our groups through these courses, perform daily safety checks to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for all.
Choice
In Watchung, NJ, our campers enjoy the freedom to choose their weekly activities during the Choice period. Each week, campers can select a new activity from a rotating list that spans a diverse range of athletic and creative options.
Furthermore, for Seniors, there is the unique opportunity to participate in our annual Drama Production or join the special Dance routine, collectively referred to as Showcrest. The Senior performances in both the Drama and Dance productions consistently shine as standout highlights of our program.
Social Development
In Watchung, NJ, our campers participate in team-building challenges and competitions under the guidance of our camp counselors, offering them valuable lessons in collaboration, mutual support, and effective communication throughout the summer. These shared experiences help shape group dynamics and, with the active involvement of our counselors, promote respect within the group while facilitating the development of lasting friendships.
